A layer system is described including a silicon layer and a passivation layer which is applied at least regionally to the silicon layer's surface, the passivation layer having a first, at least largely inorganic partial layer and a second partial layer, the second partial layer being made of an organic compound including silicon or containing such a material. In particular, the second partial layer is structured in the form of a 'self-assembled monolayer.' Furthermore, a method is described for creating a passivation layer on a silicon layer, a first, inorganic partial layer being created on the silicon layer and a second partial layer, containing an organic compound including silicon or being made thereof, being created at least in certain areas on the first partial layer. Both partial layers form the passivation layer. The described layer system or the described method is particularly suited for creating self-supporting structures in silicon.

A micromechanical sensor and a method for manufacturing a micromechanical sensor which has at least one membrane are provided. The membrane is made of a first material which is accommodated in a surrounding second material, and the membrane is configured for sensing a medium surrounding it. The membrane is reinforced, at least partly, by a third material at break-sensitive points on the membrane rim. Reinforcement of the membrane rim increases the stability and thus also the service life of the membrane and the sensor.

Membrane sensor

A bridge-type ignition element for initiating the ignition of pyrotechnical materials lying above it by heating when an electric current is passed through it. The bridge-type element is essentially made up of a resistance layer applied to a substrate, a reactive layer, applied on top of that, made of especially an oxidizable metal and a polymeric cover layer situated on top of that, whose material is selected in such a way that it is able to react exothermally at an elevated temperature with the oxidizable material of the reactive layer. The polymeric cover layer makes possible not only a lower energy requirement but also achieves corrosion protection from the surroundings and from the pyrotechnical material.

Bridge-type igniter ignition element

A bridge igniter having a resistance layer which has a given electrical resistance and which can be heated by an electrical current, an electrical insulating layer that is disposed on the resistance layer and has a given thermal conductivity, a reactive layer that is disposed on the insulating layer, the insulating layer transmitting the heat that is produced in the resistance layer to the reactive layer, thereby causing the latter to undergo an exothermic reaction, and a pyrotechnic layer that is disposed on or above the reactive layer and that may be set off by the exothermic reaction of the reactive layer.

Optical sensor

An optical waveguide is described which has a core and a sheath, each of which is made of a fully fluorinated fluorocarbon material. In particular, a fully fluorinated Teflon material such as Teflon AF 1600 or Teflon AF 2400, or a mixture thereof, is suitable as the fully fluorinated fluorocarbon. The optical waveguide is optically transparent around the 1300 nm and/or 1550 nm wave band. Furthermore, the core of the optical waveguide may have a refractive index that is higher than the refractive index of the sheath. The optical waveguide is suitable for use as, for example, an integrated optical waveguide for transmitting information in optical telecommunications.
