A water soluble functional polyethylene glycol-grafted polysiloxane polymer comprising a polysiloxane backbone and polyethylene glycol side chains is provided having the general formula: wherein A is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, methyl, methoxy and functional polyethylene glycol based chains, B is a functional group for binding biologically-sensitive materials, D is a functional group for binding to a substrate, m is from 3 to 5, v is from 0 to 5, w is from 4 to 11, x is from 0 to 35 and z is from 1 to 33. In order to be water soluble, the polysiloxane polymer h the following properties: x+y+z is from 8 to 40, n is from 8 to 30, and y is from 7 to 35.

Self assembled grafted polymeric layer for use in biosensor technology

Interdigitated electrode arrays are very promising devices for multi-parameter (bio)sensing, for example the label-free detection of nucleic acid hybridization for diagnostic applications. The current disclosure provides an innovative method for the affordable manufacturing of polymer-based arrays of interdigitated electrodes with &#x3bc;m-dimensions. The method is based on a combination of an appropriate three-dimensional structure and a single and directional deposition of conductive material. The three-dimensional structure can be realized in a polymer material using a molding step, for which the molds are manufactured by electroplating as a reverse copy of a silicon master structure. In order to ensure sufficient electrical isolation and individual, but convenient, accessibility of the sensors in the array, the interdigitated electrode regions need to be complemented with specific features on the three-dimensional structure. Combined with the use of e.g. shadow masks in the deposition step, these features allow for the site-specific deposition of the conductive material. The technology described has the additional advantage to integrate highly miniaturized and arrayed electronics elements into polymer micro-fluidics technology, which leads to the affordable manufacturing of (bio)sensor arrays.

The present invention provides a silane molecule which combines pre-activated and protein-resistant functionalities in one molecule; the molecule has a general formula:A-(CH)&#x2014;(O[CH])&#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;Y &#x2003;&#x2003;(1)wherein A is a functional group for binding to a substrate and Y is a functional group for binding to biomolecules. The invention furthermore provides a method for the synthesis of such a silane molecule and a method for depositing a monolayer of such silane molecules onto a substrate. Such a monolayer of silane molecules may be used in biosensors, DNA/protein micro-arrays or other sensor applications. For further lowering the protein binding to the surface of the biosensor, the monolayer may furthermore comprise second silane molecules with formula:B&#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;(OCHCH)&#x2014;Z. &#x2003;&#x2003;(4)
