Process of treating a net gas stream is disclosed. The process includes sending the net gas stream to a compressor to produce a compressed gas stream. The compressed gas stream is then sent to a pressure swing adsorption unit to produce a hydrogen product stream and a tail gas stream. Tail gas stream from the pressure swing adsorption unit is sent to a first membrane unit to produce a first permeate stream and a first non-permeate stream. Portion of the tail gas stream is sent to a second membrane unit to produce a second permeate stream and a second non-permeate stream.

Membrane permeate recycle process for use with pressure swing adsorption processes

A system that is used for the treatment of a net gas stream is disclosed. The system includes a compressor to produce a compressed gas stream from a net gas stream. The compressor is connected to a pressure swing adsorption unit where the net gas stream is separated to produce a hydrogen product stream and a tail gas stream. Tail gas stream from the pressure swing adsorption unit is sent to a first membrane unit to produce a first permeate stream and a first non-permeate stream. A portion of the tail gas stream is sent to a second membrane unit to produce a second permeate stream and a second non-permeate stream.

The invention provides a process for producing hydrogen for a hydrogen consuming process comprising obtaining a net gas stream containing hydrogen, compressing the gas stream to a pressure of 20.7 to 68.9 bar (300 to 1000 psig) to produce a compressed gas stream; sending the compressed gas stream to a pressure swing adsorption unit to be separated into a hydrogen stream and a fuel gas stream; purging the pressure swing adsorption unit with an external purge gas stream from a hydroprocessing unit off gas; treating the off gas with a thermal swing adsorption unit to remove water and other impurities prior to purging the pressure swing adsorption unit, and using a protective adsorbent layer in the pressure swing adsorption unit to adsorb impurities from the external purge gas.

Integration of pressure swing adsorption with hydrocracking for improved hydrogen and liquids recovery

One exemplary embodiment can be a process for catalytic reforming. The process can include catalytically reforming a hydrocarbon feed in a reaction zone, obtaining an effluent stream having hydrogen and hydrocarbons from the reaction zone, obtaining from at least a portion of the effluent stream a waste hydrocarbon stream from an adsorption zone, passing at least a portion of the waste hydrocarbon stream as a feed stream across a feed side of a membrane having the feed side and a permeate side, and being selective for hydrogen over one or more C1-C6 hydrocarbons, and withdrawing from the permeate side a permeate stream enriched in hydrogen compared with a residue stream withdrawn from the feed side.

Process for catalytic reforming

Embodiments of methods for controlling impurity buildup on adsorbent for a pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process are provided. The method comprises the steps of operating the PSA process including performing (a) a first depressurizing equalization step, and (b) a providing purge step. Impurities are sensed in an effluent from the PSA process. If the impurities sensed in the effluent have reached a predetermined upper impurity level, then the PSA process is operated including performing (b) and not (a).
