A system executes a method that includes monitoring the systems that provide the provisioning of computing infrastructure resources to provide services for services executing on the resources, to monitor provisioning changes on the infrastructure resources. It further uses the information gathered by the monitoring of the provisioning resource(s) to provide a tag, which denotes the current assignment of each resource with a service name and an instance of the service associated with the resource identifier and a time stamp, and storing this a relational database, as a part of the record of the state, or performance data for that resource during that time interval.

Resource management in ephemeral environments

A method includes receiving at a computing system empirical data related to one or more information technology entities. The method further includes receiving at the computing system one or more user experience indicators, the user experience indicators indicative of a user's experience using a computer application. The method further includes correlating by the computing system the empirical data with the one or more user experience indicators to determine a quality of service delivered to a user for a plurality of time periods. The method further includes determining by the computing system, based on the correlation, whether one or more issues with one of the one or more information technology entities are related to the quality of service delivered to the user.

System and method for correlating empirical data with user experience

A computer-based method of formatting rules for monitoring application responsiveness, the method including defining a collection of resources, each such resource being a source of application events; and defining a first transaction as a timeframe for measuring application responsiveness. The first transaction includes a pattern of application events from resources in the collection of resources, the pattern being defined as a block of constructs, wherein each construct in the block of constructs is selected from a group of construct syntaxes consisting of an event construct syntax, a choice construct syntax, a sequence construct syntax, and a last construct syntax. The the event construct syntax specifies a category of application events for the pattern to accept; the choice construct syntax specifies an option set of constructs from the group of construct syntaxes, any one of which is acceptable to the pattern; the sequence construct syntax specifies a sequence of constructs from the group of construct syntaxes, for the pattern to accept sequentially; and the last construct syntax specifies a final set of constructs from the group of construct syntaxes, such that the final set of constructs must be satisfied for the pattern to be matched.

Application response monitor

A method of displaying information relating to performance of a computer resource over a preselected period of time, wherein the computer resource is connected to a communication network and the method includes the steps of: from a location on the network that is remote from the computer resource, periodically sampling data relating to performance of the resource so as to generate stored values for a preselected performance variable for that resource, wherein the periodic sampling takes place over a preselected period of time and the preselected performance variable takes on values within a specified range of possible values; dividing the specified range of possible values for the preselected performance variable into a plurality of subranges; for each subrange, determining for what proportion of the preselected period, the values of the preselected performance variable fall within that subrange; and for each subrange, displaying in graphical form the proportion of the preselected period of time that the values of the preselected performance variable fell within that subrange.
