Embodiments relate to a seal for sealing a valve shaft in an internal combustion engine. The seal includes a sealing lip of an elastomer which is configured to be in contact with a shell surface of the valve shaft perpendicular to a radial direction. The seal further includes a supporting structure firmly connected to the sealing lip and made of a material different from the elastomer of the sealing lip which is configured to create a form-fit in the axial direction directly between the supporting structure and a guide element of the valve shaft by an at least partial plastic deformation in the radial direction.

A sealing lip seals a first space from a second space with respect to a liquid medium present in the first space. The sealing lip has abutment surface configured to abut on a sealing surface of a component that is movable relative to the sealing lip along a direction of movement. A groove is defined in the abutment surface and pumps any liquid medium present in the groove towards the first space along the direction of movement. The groove extends completely within the abutment surface and is enclosed by the abutment surface, such that it does not intersect either lateral edge of the sealing lip.

Sealing lip and seal

A sealing assembly includes a seal support having a support ring made from an elastomeric material, at least one seal element having a ring made from a polymer material, and an abutment ring against which a radial portion of the seal element axially abuts. The seal element is connected in a materially-bonded manner to the support ring along a first radially outer portion of the seal element, and the seal element axially abuts on the abutment ring along a second radially inner portion of the seal element. The seal element and the abutment ring are free of any connection along the second radially inner portion of the seal element.

Sealing assembly

A seal includes a sealing lip having a sealing region with a pumping structure that can abut on a first component. The pumping structure causes a liquid medium to move in a direction from a first axial side of the seal towards or to a second axial side of the seal when the first component rotates relative to a second component. The pumping structure includes at least one pumping groove that extends along a direction of extension and at least one retaining structure disposed in the at least one pumping groove. The at least one retaining structure reduces a cross-section of the at least one pumping groove, in at least one direction perpendicular to the direction of extension, to a value of between 50% and 90% of an extension of the cross-section of the pumping groove outside the at least one retaining structure along the at least one direction.

Seal and method for manufacturing thereof

A sealing element for sealing a shaft comprises a stiffening part, a first elastomer part connected to the stiffening part and adapted to adjoin the housing part and provide a static seal relative, and a second elastomer part of an elastomer material different from the elastomer material forming the first elastomer part. The second elastomer part is connected to the stiffening part and comprises a sealing section adapted to adjoin the shaft to seal a space. The sealing section comprises a return structure for returning a leaking fluid to a space to be sealed. The sealing section also comprises a region at one axial end portion of the sealing section which is peripherally closed in itself and extends along an inner surface of a circular cylinder portion of the sealing section that is adapted to adjoin and seal the shaft as the shaft is not turning.
