Methods and systems for making a film made of dynamically vulcanized thermoplastic elastomeric material are provided herein. The subject methods and systems achieve dimensional stability of an elastic film by applying thermal treatment as part of the film making process and enhance the shrinkage of the film by intentionally with stretching the film while hot and freezing the film in the stretch. The systems and methods are useful in controlling shrinkage of DVA post film extrusion.

Methods of making a film of dynamically vulcanized thermoplastic elastomeric materials

The present invention is related to a composition with about 80 wt % to about 95 wt % of a polymer blend, wherein the polymer blend comprises (a) about 3 wt % to about 25 wt % of a first propylene-based elastomer based on the polymer blend, and (b) about 75 wt % to about 97 wt % of a second propylene-based elastomer based on the polymer blend; and about 5 wt % to about 20 wt % of an ethylene-based polymer; wherein the first propylene-based elastomer and the second propylene-based elastomer each comprise the following: propylene and from about 2 to about 25 wt % units derived from one or more Cor C-Calpha-olefins; triad tacticity greater than about 90% and a heat of fusion less than about 75 J; and wherein the first propylene-based elastomer is different from the second propylene-based elastomer.

Propylene-based polymer compositions with improved crystallization

Slit film tapes comprising (i) 1 to 50 wt % of a propylene elastomer based upon the total weight of the blend comprising 70 wt % to 95 wt % propylene and about 5 wt % to about 30 wt % alpha-olefin comonomer based upon total weight of the propylene elastomer. The propylene elastomer has a melt flow rate of 1 to 35 dg/min, a peak melting point of less than 115&#xb0; C., and an mm triad tacticity of at least 70%; (ii) about 50 to about 99 wt % of a polypropylene based upon total weight of the blend comprising about 90 to about 100 mol % propylene wherein the polypropylene has a melt flow rate of 2 to 35 dg/min and a peak melting point of at least 130&#xb0; C.; and (iii) 0.1 to 50 wt % of filler based upon the total weight of the blend.

Slit film tape compositions for improved tenacity and methods for making same

Film tapes comprising a blend of a masterbatch and a propylene-based polymer are provided. The masterbatch comprises a propylene-based elastomer and filler. The propylene-based elastomer has about 50 to about 99 mol % of units derived from propylene, about 1 to about 50 mol % of units derived from C-Ccomonomer and a peak melting point temperature of 115&#xb0; C. or less. The propylene-based polymer comprises about 80 to about 100 mol % units derived from propylene and a peak melting point temperature of greater than 115&#xb0; C. The compositions are suitable to make carpet fiber, carpet yarn, films, film tapes, molded parts and nonwoven fabrics having excellent mechanical properties.

Compositions for making films having improved mechanical properties and methods for making same

Provided are films wherein at least one layer of the film comprises a first polymer component and a second polymer component. The first polymer component comprises propylene-derived units and ethylene-derived units and/or a C4 to C20 alpha-olefin. The second polymer component comprises ethylene-derived units and a units derived from a co-polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated ester. The films are particularly useful in stretch hood applications.
