An assembly includes a housing with opposite first and second layers. The first and second layers are spaced apart to define a confined interior space. A semi-permeable membrane is attached to the first layer, the semi-permeable membrane covering a porous area portion of the first layer. An outlet port and an inlet port are in fluid communication with the interior space. The assembly includes a first circulator for circulating a first fluid between the outlet port and the inlet port, and a second circulator for circulating a second fluid along an exterior surface of the semi-permeable membrane. The second circulator includes a fluid duct attached to or integrated within the housing. The fluid duct is isolated from the interior space and is porous to provide fluid access to an exterior surface of the semi-permeable membrane. The semi-permeable membrane forms a barrier allowing exchange of compounds across the membrane.

A method for producing a porous carbon electrode includes preparing a slurry by mixing a porous, particulate, conductive carbon powder with a solution of a polymer binding agent for the particulate carbon powder in a solvent for the polymer binding agent, forming a precursor electrode by casting the slurry as a layer and subjecting the cast layer to a wet phase inversion to realize porosity in the cast layer, subjecting the thus obtained precursor electrode to a thermal treatment to cause oxidative stabilization, carbonization, dehydrogenation or cyclisation of the polymer binding agent or a combination of two or more of the afore mentioned phenomena by heating the precursor electrode and converting the polymer binding agent into a conductive binding agent binding the particles of the conductive carbon powder together.

Process for producing a porous carbon electrode

Assembly for treating fluids, comprising a support () having a first and second oppositely arranged surfaces () for backing support of a semi permeable membrane (), a first fluid conveying compartments () interposed between the first and second surfaces, a plurality of first fluid passages () extending from the first surface () and being in fluid communication with the first compartments (), and a first duct attached to the support () and in fluid communication with the first compartments. Membrane cartridge with integrated functions

A planar filtration element includes a planar support structure () and at least one filtration layer () made of a membrane material. The planar support structure has first and second opposite outer surfaces () spaced apart and secured by spacing members () to define a drainage compartment () between the first and second outer surfaces. At least one of the first and second outer surfaces includes through-openings () for fluid connection with the drainage compartment (), and wherein the outer surfaces (), when one disregards the through-openings, are formed of a material extending continuously throughout the outer surfaces. The filtration layer () coats the outer surface such that the membrane material penetrates the through-openings () to anchor the filtration layer () to the support structure ().

Backwashable filtration element

A process for manufacturing asymmetric braid reinforced capillary ultra- or micro-filtration membranes (), including the subsequent steps of pulling a tubular braid () through a spinneret () and coating the braid with a dope. Prior to the coating step, the braid is impregnated with a non-coagulation liquid, being a liquid which does not cause coagulation of the dope, when brought in contact with the dope. The result is a membrane with an outer skin, i.e. smaller pores near the outside diameter than near the inside diameter, and a coating which is closely arranged around the outside diameter of the braid, without any substantial penetration of the coating into the braid.
