An optical navigation method includes: providing an optical sensor to operate in a run mode to sense pixel images to perform a displacement calculation; performing a low feature detection upon the sensed pixel images; and, controlling the optical sensor switching from the run mode into a rest mode in which the optical sensor does not perform the displacement calculation when the low feature detection indicates a low feature condition result.

Optical navigation device and method capable of accurately avoiding stationary cursor jitter noise

An optical navigation device includes an optical sensor and a microcontroller. The optical sensor generates at least one image frame to obtain displacement information and transmits the displacement information into the microcontroller for optical navigation in a run mode. The microcontroller receives the displacement information in the run mode and reports the displacement information to a host device to be externally coupled to optical navigation device through a specific communication interface based on a specific report rate. The optical sensor further respectively operates in different rest modes corresponding to different wake-up displacement amounts.

An optical navigation system comprising a control circuit and an optical navigation device. The first motion and the second motion are calculated according to the image frames. A mouse device and method for calibrating sensitivity thereof are provided. The method for calibrating sensitivity includes the following steps. First, sampling information is obtained under a test mode. A calibration factor is obtained according to the sampling information and a preset value. The calibration factor can be obtained by dividing the preset value by the resolution. Under a normal mode, an actual count detected by the mouse device is calibrated according to the calibration factor. Whenever the mouse device is moved on the operating surface for a distance, the actual count detected by the mouse device can be calibrated to obtain a calibrated count. The calibrated count can be calculated by multiplying the actual count by the calibration factor.

A method for synchronizing a mouse report rate with a screen refresh rate of a computer includes: utilizing the computer to inform the mouse of a time period of each screen refresh; and adjusting the mouse report rate in accordance with the time period so that an equal integer number of frames will be reported in each screen refresh. Another method includes: determining a screen refresh rate of the computer; setting a target number of frames to be reported to the computer in each screen refresh period; scaling a motion report count of the mouse to generate a post-processed motion report count which corresponds to the target number of frames; and utilizing the post-processed motion report count to add or subtract frames to the number of frames reported during the mouse report period.

An optical navigation device for controlling an operation of a pointer on a display apparatus is provided, the optical navigation device includes a device body, a substrate, a light source, an image sensor, and a processing module. The light source, the image sensor, and the processing module are respectively disposed on the substrate. The device body has a housing with an accommodating space formed therein. The substrate is arranged in the accommodating space of the housing. The light source operatively generates a light illuminating a navigation surface of the optical navigation device through the opening of the housing. The image sensor is oriented at a preset angle with respect to a long axis of device body and is configured for capturing images of the navigation surface. The processing module generates a displacement information of the optical navigation device relative to the navigation surface according to the images captured.

The method includes the steps of: (a) providing an image which is non-uniformly illuminated; (b) segmenting the image into two or more non-overlapping regions; (c) identifying brightness values for each of the regions when more than one brightness value has been produced for each of the regions; (d) applying the whole image with different shutters for different regions; and (e) exposing different regions for different exposure durations according to the brightness values respectively assigned to the regions, so that the present invention is capable of enabling different regions within the whole image which is non-uniformly illuminated to have different shutter adaptions.
