Provided are highly water-resistant, flexible cementitious coating compositions comprising: an aqueous styrene-butadiene latex, one or more epoxy silane, cement, and one or more solid filler. The epoxy silane may comprise one or more epoxy functional groups and one or more hydrolysable functional groups selected from siloxy, silane, and, silanol or combinations thereof. Also provided are kits comprising the components of the cementitious coating compositions, methods for providing coatings, layers or membranes derived from such wet compositions, as well as the coatings, layers or membranes derived therefrom.

Highly water-resistant, flexible cementitious coating

The present invention provides aqueous caulk or sealant compositions that are substantially free of any plasticizer comprising an aqueous emulsion copolymer having a broad measured glass transition temperature by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), soft phases and hard phases, and two separate Tan Delta transition temperatures as measured by dimensional mechanical analysis (DMA), (ii) one or more filler in a filler to binder ratio of up to 4:1, and (iii) from 0.2 to 5 wt. % as solids, based on the total weight of the composition, of one or more thickener or rheology modifier. In addition, the invention provides methods of making the composition comprising polymerizing by gradually adding from a flask into a polymerization vessel a soft monomer composition, and, after feeding at least 20 wt. % of such composition in the vessel, gradually adding into the flask a hard comonomer composition, feeding all flask contents into the vessel and polymerizing.

Plasticizer free caulks and sealants comprising waterborne acrylic polymeric composites and methods for making the same

The present invention provides shaped articles comprising one or more composite layer of (i) a vulcanizate encapsulated in a colored or uncolored thermoplastic polymer matrix containing one or more passivating agent, and (ii) a reflective material chosen from colored fluidizable particles of a thermoplastic reflective colorant encapsulated vulcanizate, roofing granules, thermoplastic encapsulated roofing granules, the colored thermoplastic polymer matrix, and combinations thereof. The articles can be laminates of colored or reflective layers on uncolored or other layers, or one or more colored layer having colored fluidizable particles are dispersed within the surface of the uppermost composite layer or having either the colored fluidizable particles or the granules are dispersed on the surface of the composite layer or are adhered thereto with a thermoplastic resin. Roofing shingles are provided.

Polymer rubber composite shingles with high solar reflectance

The present invention provides surface treated articles comprising a recoatable surface treatment of an acrylic or vinyl polymer that does not change the appearance of the treated surface, and which imparts blocking resistance and/or stain and dirt pickup resistance to the treated surface. The one or more acrylic or vinyl polymer has a number average molecular weight of from 1,000 to 100,000, a glass transition temperature of &#x2212;10&#xb0; C. or higher, preferably, 30&#xb0; C. or higher, and comprises the polymerization product of one or more non-ionic monomer, such as methyl methacrylate, with up to 47 wt. % of an ethylenically unsaturated acid monomer and, preferably, is non-migrating under use conditions. When dry, the surface treatments may form a layer of domains of polymer distributed all over the treated surface, rather than a film. Treated articles include coating or painted articles and elastomer films.

Blocking and stain resistant surface treated articles and methods for making

The present invention provides methods for making shapeable composite materials or shaped articles from recycled materials comprising forming a crumb slurry by, in any order, increasing the particle size of a composition comprising white water waste from one or more emulsion or dispersion polymer and combining the white water waste polymer with one or more waste thermoset material, preferably, ground tire rubber (GTR), and, then processing the combined material wet or dry as a thermoplastic to form the composite material or article. Additionally, shaped articles and composite materials can be made from substantially all recycled waste materials, such as white water waste from acrylic or vinyl polymer emulsions and waste rubber vulcanizates. The composite materials can consist essentially of reshapeable materials, i.e. without crosslinking agents, thermosettable compositions or compatibilizers to provide reshapeable or recyclable articles.

Recycled thermoplastic composition comprising waste thermoset material and methods of making

The present invention provides methods of making shapeable composites in the form of finely divided materials or articles and the materials and articles produced by the methods, the methods comprising forming mixtures by (i) treating an aqueous thermoplastic acrylic or vinyl polymer to increase the particle size thereof to a weight average particle size of 1 &#x3bc;m or more, and, optionally, dewatering to form a crumb mixture; and (ii) combining a thermoplastic acrylic or vinyl polymer with one or more waste rubber vulcanizate having a sieve particle size ranging from 10 to 600 &#x3bc;m in the amount of from 15 to 95 wt. %, based on the total weight of polymer and rubber to form a crumb slurry, such that (ii) can take place before, during, after (i) but before any dewatering, or after any dewatering; and (iii) thermoplastic processing the mixture. Thermoplastic processing can directly form articles, like sheets or films. The shapeable composites have excellent adhesion to other materials. In one embodiment, the sheets and films can be formed into laminates.

Methods for making composites having thermoplastic properties from recycled crosslinked polymer

The present invention provides methods of making composite materials comprising combining particles of crosslinked rubber with one or more aqueous polymer dispersion of a suspension polymer to form a mixture in aqueous dispersion, and, optionally, subjecting the aqueous dispersion mixture to solid state shear pulverization to form materials that can be processed as thermoplastics at crosslinked rubber concentrations of from 10 to as high as 95 wt. %, based on the total solids of the material. The method may further comprise kneading and/or compression molding the pulverized product to form useful articles, such as roofing membranes and shoe soles.

Process for making polymer composites having thermoplastic properties
