Various embodiments of the teachings herein include a method for determining a target position of a surroundings sensor of a vehicle using a vehicle-side attachment element as a calibration object, wherein the sensor and the attachment element are movable relative to each other. The method includes: ascertaining a first position of the surroundings sensor in a first relative pose; moving the sensor and/or the element from the first pose to a second pose between the sensor and the element; ascertaining a second actual position of the surroundings sensor in the second relative pose; and determining the target position of the surroundings sensor by averaging the first position and the second position to form an averaged actual position and assigning the averaged actual position as the target position.

Various embodiments include a catalyst measuring system for on-board diagnostics and for determining the aging of an SCR catalytic converter for a vehicle comprising: a processor; an SCR catalytic converter for purifying exhaust gas of the vehicle; a high-frequency sensor for determining the ammonia loading of the SCR catalytic converter; a NOx sensor for sensing the NOx concentration downstream of the SCR catalytic converter; and an ammonia dosing system for injecting ammonia into an exhaust system of the vehicle. The control device instructs the ammonia dosing system to inject ammonia selectively into the exhaust system at a plurality of different dosing rates. The control device evaluates data received from the NOx sensor and of the high-frequency sensor to calculate the ammonia dosing rate.

A sensor for detecting oxidizable gases may comprise a catalytically inactive surface and a catalytically active surface on opposite sides of a sensor element and a thermal element running through the sensor element to connect the two surfaces, with a device for measuring a thermoelectric voltage between the catalytically active surface and the inactive surface as a measure of the difference in temperature and therefore the gas concentration. The sensor may include a hot plate mounted on a base carrier by means of narrow arms, wherein the thermal element includes at least one via extending through the hot plate and connecting the two surfaces to one another, and in the region of which the thermoelectric voltage is measured.

Sensor for detecting oxidizable gases

A sensor element may include a measuring element and a functional housing at least partially surrounding the measuring element including a plastic molded housing. The measuring element may include a hot plate mounted on a carrier substrate by means of narrow arms in a broadly thermally decoupled manner. The carrier substrate may be provided with contacts leading to the measuring element and terminating in contact/bonding points on the carrier substrate. The carrier substrate together with the contact/bonding points may be at least partially integrated into the plastic molded housing, leaving the hot plate exposed. The housing may include connection wiring for the contact/bonding points.

A sensor element with air pressure measurement includes a layer stack from a plurality of layers arranged one on top of the other. At least one first layer contains a measurement sensor device for measuring a measurement parameter different from an ambient pressure of the sensor. A particle sensor arranged in an exhaust duct such that particles from the exhaust-gas flow accumulate on and/or between at least two sensor electrodes when a voltage greater than a limit voltage is applied between the two sensor electrodes and substantially no particles accumulate if the voltage is lower than the limit voltage. During a first time period, a first voltage greater than the limit voltage is applied between the sensor electrodes. During a second time period, a second voltage, lower than the limit voltage, is applied between the sensor electrodes, and/or the particle sensor is heated to a predefined temperature, such that substantially no particles accumulate on and/or between the at least two sensor electrodes. Following the second time period, a third voltage greater than the limit voltage is applied between the sensor electrodes.

A frequency of pressure pulses generated in the medium the blades or by the shaft of the turbocompressor is measured using high-frequency signal portion of a pressure sensor, and the turbocompressor rotational speed is ascertained from the measured pressure pulse frequency. Furthermore, the charge pressure of the turbocompressor can be ascertained from the low-frequency signal of the pressure sensor so that a single sensor is sufficient for both measurements. The pressure sensor can be arranged in the intake system downstream of the compressor, upstream or downstream of an intercooler.

A soot sensor for the detection of soot particles in an exhaust gas flow, having interdigitally engaged measurement electrodes applied on a substrate. An electrical resistance between the measurement electrodes is a measure of soot load of the exhaust gas flow. The measurement electrodes are divided into two regions, a first region in which no soot particles can be deposited and a second region where soot particles are deposited from the exhaust gas flow. The soot sensor is electrically connected to an evaluation circuit with is permanently installed in the motor vehicle. In order to specify a method for performing functional diagnostics on a soot sensor and/or for detecting further components in the soot, with which method it is possible to detect a faulty soot sensor and/or further components in the soot in a cost-effective way, the evaluation circuit measures the temperature coefficient of the soot sensor and detects the defectiveness of the soot sensor and/or the presence of further components in the soot on the basis of the temperature coefficient of the soot sensor.
