A sensor arrangement for a vehicle includes a sensor unit, a cable arrangement, and an elastic cap. The sensor unit has a main support, an electronics part connected to the main support, and a sensor element. The cable arrangement has at least one individual wire, and is configured to electrically contact the electronics part via at least one contact-making member. The main support is an open housing defining at least one insertion opening configured to accommodate the at least one contact-making member and an accommodation pocket configured to at least partially accommodate the electronics part. The elastic cap has a member configured to fasten the sensor unit in the vehicle, is configured to be pushed at least partially over the main support, and closes off the accommodation pocket in a sealed manner.

Sensor unit for a vehicle

A system and method for determining characteristics of a trailer being towed by a vehicle. The trailer is coupled to the vehicle using a trailer hitch using at least one intelligent bolt or fastener. The intelligent fastener has structural characteristics similar to those of traditional bolts for fastening a trailer to a vehicle (e.g., shear strength, diameter, etc.), but the intelligent fastener is configured to sense forces at a junction between the trailer and the vehicle. An ESC system receives force readings from the intelligent fastener sensors along with signals from a plurality of other sensors and determines one or more characteristics of the trailer. The ESC system compensates the motion of the vehicle based on the forces sensed at the junction and the characteristics of the trailer.

Method and system of determining load characteristics of a trailer

An apparatus for determining an amount of rotation of a rotatable component that rotates with respect to a stationary component. The apparatus includes a cable with a first end fixed to the rotatable component and a second end fixed to the stationary component. The cable, which supports a sensing element, is configured to wind or unwind when the rotatable component rotates with respect to the stationary component. The sensing element extends along a length of the cable and is configured to flex in response to the winding or unwinding of the cable. The sensing element has a resistance that changes in response to flexion of the sensing element. An evaluation circuit is connected to the sensing element and is configured to determine a value having a relation to the resistance and determine the amount of rotation based on the value.

Steering angle sensor

A rotation sensor configured to be mounted on a rim of a wheel. The rotation sensor includes a band sized and shaped to fit around the rim of the wheel, a first element mounted on the band that generates a first time-varying electrical signal in response to a rotational movement, a second element mounted on the band that generates a second time-varying electrical signal in response to the rotational movement, a processor mounted on the band that receives the first and second time-varying electrical signals and processes the first and second time-varying electrical signals to determine a rotational speed, and a rechargeable power source that receives the first and second time-varying electrical signals, consumes at least a portion of the first and second time-varying electrical signals to recharge the rechargeable power source, and generates a power signal. The processor is connected to the rechargeable power source to receive the power signal.

Rotation sensor with onboard power generation

A method of manufacturing a hermetically sealed electrical connection is provided. The method includes providing an electrically conductive wire, surrounding the electrically conductive wire with a metal layer, providing an insulating layer between the metal layer and the electrically conductive wire, and applying a magnetically-induced compressive force to the metal layer such that the metal layer is compressed against the insulating layer and the insulating layer is compressed against the electrically conductive wire to form a hermetic seal between the metal layer and the conductive wire while maintaining the insulating layer therebetween.
