An approach for enhancing service continuity in the case of a communication failure between a repository and a controller of a spectrum sharing communication system as described. The repository is operable to at least one of store and generate restrictions governing use of a set of spectrum resources, and the controller is operable to receive the restriction from the repository and to enforce the restrictions A method implementation performed, for example, by the controller may comprise determining occurrence of a communication failure between the repository and the controller and, in response to the communication failure, taking one or more actions that result in an at least temporary continued use of spectrum resources under control of the controller.

Technique for handling a communication failure in a spectrum sharing communication system

A technique for assigning spectral resources in a cellular network for wireless communications is described. The spectral resources are partly utilized by other applications. As to a method aspect of the technique, a controller () of the cellular network receives information () indicative of one or more geographical areas and restrictions within the one or more geographical areas (). The spectral resources are assigned based on the received information ().

Method and device for assigning spectral resources in a cellular network

A method and device for managing resources in shared networks is based on a few basic comparisons between resources and/or thresholds. If an access request is received () and there are not enough resources available (), the request is rejected (). If there are resources available (), there is a check to see if the resource is in a congested state (). If not, then the connection is accepted (). If the resource is in a congested state (), then a test is performed () to determine whether or not the resources will be assigned to an operator who has already exceeded the assigned utilisation. If it has, then the connection is rejected (), otherwise it is accepted (). Preferred embodiments incorporating priority handling, re-negotiations and soft congestion are easily implemented. In a shared UTRAN, the functionalities for managing the radio baseband allocation for a shared Node B are preferably incorporated in the shared RNC.
