A multilateral tool and methods and systems related thereto, the multilateral tool conveyable into a parent wellbore and a lateral wellbore and having a plurality of components operatively coupled together such that movement of a component correspondingly moves the adjacent component. The plurality of components comprise a whipstock having a latch anchor, a drill bit, a measurement while drilling (MWD) tool, a motor, at least one well screen, and a multilateral junction having a primary leg and a lateral leg.

A well apparatus includes a bottom hole assembly (BHA) comprising a cutting structure at one end of the BHA, a whipstock assembly for selectively deflecting the BHA to form a deviated wellbore, a whipstock connector releasably connecting the whipstock assembly to the BHA, and a whipstock support member extending between the BHA and the whipstock assembly and spaced from the whipstock connector.

An example whipstock assembly includes a whipstock providing a ramped surface and a longitudinal groove defined in the ramped surface. A lead mill is coupled to the whipstock with a shear bolt and providing one or more blades, and a bearing support is arranged within the longitudinal groove and provides opposing sidewalls that define a slot configured to receive one of the one or more blades and thereby prevent the lead mill from rotating with respect to the whipstock.

A window milling system can include a window mill having selectively retractable and extendable blades, and a whipstock assembly having a receptacle therein, the window mill being secured relative to the whipstock assembly the blades are received in the receptacle. A method of cutting a window through a wellbore lining can include cutting through the lining with a window mill, then retracting blades of the window mill, and then outwardly extending the blades in a whipstock assembly, thereby securing the whipstock assembly to the window mill. A window mill can include multiple blades adapted for cutting through a wellbore lining, the blades being outwardly extendable relative to a body of the window mill in a well. Another method of cutting a window through a wellbore lining can include a window mill drilling a wellbore outward a substantial distance from the window after the window mill cutting through the lining.

Disclosed are systems and methods for providing a casing exit. One method includes introducing into a wellbore a casing section having an outer sleeve and an inner sleeve rotatably received within the outer sleeve, the outer sleeve defining an outer window and the inner sleeve defining an inner window rotationally alignable with the outer window, wherein the inner sleeve defines a first alignment portion engageable to rotate the inner sleeve, advancing the casing section to a wellbore location with the inner window rotationally misaligned with the outer window, extending a deflector tool within the casing section such that a second alignment portion provided on the deflector tool engages the first alignment portion, and rotating the deflector tool such that the inner sleeve rotates with respect to the outer sleeve and moves the casing section into an open configuration where the inner window is rotationally aligned with the outer window.

Disclosed are downhole subassembly systems and method of use thereof. One downhole subassembly system is an orientable whipstock subassembly that includes a whipstock apparatus including a deflector surface operable to direct a cutting tool into a casing sidewall to create a casing exit, and an orienting sub comprising an upper coupling operatively coupled to the whipstock apparatus and a lower coupling at least partially engaged with the upper coupling and rotationally movable with respect thereto while in an un-collapsed configuration and rotationally fixed with respect thereto while in a collapsed configuration.

Systems and methods for rotationally orienting a whipstock assembly

Systems and methods for providing a casing exit include a casing section having a generally cylindrical outer sleeve including a proximal end and a distal end. The outer sleeve may define an outer window extending between the proximal end and the distal end. A generally cylindrical inner sleeve may be received within the outer sleeve and may define an inner window. The inner sleeve may be moveable between a first position in which the inner window is misaligned with the outer window and the inner sleeve substantially closes the outer window, and a second position in which the inner window is aligned with the outer window. A deflector tool may be configured to engage the inner sleeve and move the inner sleeve from the first position to the second position.

Disclosed are systems and methods of supporting a multilateral window or casing joint from pressurized collapse. In one embodiment, a casing joint assembly is disclosed and includes a casing joint having a pre-milled window defined therein, a sleeve arranged at least partially about the casing joint and configured to cover the pre-milled window, and one or more reinforcing members arranged about the casing joint and interposing the casing joint and the sleeve. The one or more reinforcing members are configured to provide radial support to the sleeve.

Systems and methods of supporting a multilateral window

A casing exit joint with an easily milled and low density barrier. A casing exit joint for use in drilling a lateral wellbore outwardly from a parent wellbore includes a generally tubular window structure having a window formed through a sidewall of the structure. An outer sleeve is disposed external to the window structure, so that the sleeve overlies the window. A hardenable substance supports the sleeve against deflection toward the window. A method of drilling a lateral wellbore extending outwardly from a parent wellbore includes the steps of: providing a casing exit joint including a hardenable substance positioned in a sidewall of the casing exit joint; then installing the casing exit joint in the parent wellbore; and then cutting through the hardenable substance in order to provide access for drilling the lateral wellbore.
