An air pad having a plurality of foam filled air chambers interconnected by at least one air passage connecting at least two of the air chambers to one another. The air passages are also filled with foam whereby the flow of air from one air chamber to another due to impact is restricted. The pad is manufactured by radio frequency welding of two layers of plastic film to one another about a foam body to join the plastic film in the area surrounding each of the air chambers.

Interlocking fastener strip

A fastener having two like plates effects joining through the interdigitation of bulbous heads formed to each plate. The plates have a plurality of intersecting, perpendicular walls. The intersection points of these walls define where heads may be formed thereto. Heads are attached to the plates atop stems formed integrally with the walls. The bulbous nature of the heads and the strength supplied by the formation of the walls allows for a strong yet releasable fastening of the plates.

Fastening system

A mounting adaptor is disclosed for removably securing an interior rearview mirror assembly to a mounting support on the inner surface of a vehicle window such as a windshield. The adaptor preferably has a recessed channel on one side for receiving a window mounting button and a projection on the opposite surface simulating a window mounting button for removably mounting a rearview mirror assembly. The projection may be shaped to receive the same or a different mirror assembly channel mount as compared to the support on the window to allow conversion from one assembly to another without changing the window support. The adaptor may also include a support for a vehicular accessory such as a microphone, compass, headlight dimmer, light, moisture sensor, radar detector or the like. Such accessory is thus supported for convenient use by the driver or other vehicle occupant and in a highly advantageous operating position without interference with the rearview mirror, its replacement, interchangeability or adjustability. A wire cover may also be included on the adaptor. An assembly combining a microphone and a support for mounting a rearview mirror adjacent a driver within a vehicle is also disclosed.

Rearview mirror and accessory mount for vehicles

A rearview mirror assembly for vehicles which displays information useful to the driver/viewer when viewing the mirror assembly. Indicia are formed by narrow deletion lines, preferably using computer controlled laser marking apparatus, in a reflective coating on a mirror element of the assembly. A light source, which may be a light emitting diode, an incandescent bulb or another type source, is positioned behind the mirror element to illuminate the indicia for distinct, clear, precise visibility by the driver/viewer. The lines of the deletion area are sufficiently narrow as to be generally unnoticeable to the unaided viewer's eyes when a rear vision image is reflected by the reflecting surface and the light source is unlit thereby preventing interference with normal driving use of the mirror assembly. The light source may be used to simultaneously illuminate portions of the vehicle as well as the deletion area indicia.
