Damping elements physically contact some of the coils on one or more mechanical coil springs disposed between a railway car body and a truck. The coils contacted may be at the ends of the springs or at areas between the ends. When double springs are involved, with one being spaced within the other, the damping elements are disposed in the space between the springs at the ends thereof.

Dampers for mechanical railway springs

A mounting member is disposed on one end of a mechanical spring to prevent vibrations from a truck being transmitted into a car body for transmitted to the spring and car body if mounted below the spring. The mounting includes a pair of elastomeric rings, with one of the rings providing vertical compliance and the other providing lateral compliance between the truck and car body.

Isolator for a spring in a railway car

A laterally disposed cylinder including fluid therein connected between a truck and car body is responsive to lateral forces to provide low damping when relatively low lateral forces are applied and proportionally higher damping as relatively higher lateral forces are applied. The cylinder includes a piston to provide two fluid chambers. The piston includes an opening therein. An element is provided to vary the opening in accordance with the lateral forces.

Laterally damped railway car

An articulated truck joins and supports two adjacent railway cars. A linkage including two pairs of links is connected between the bolster of the truck and one of the railway cars. A common link is connected between the two pairs of link. The linkage and common link forces the truck to maintain a radial position with respect to curves in the track.

A primary suspension system is disposed between a journal bearing assembly carrying a wheel-axle assembly and a side frame of a railway truck. A rubber ring having cut-away portions or openings therein is bonded to inner and outer split metal rings. The inner ring is retained by the journal assembly and the outer ring is retained by the side frame.

Primary suspension system for a railway car

A forced steering mechanism is connected to a truck to steer an axle and associated wheels. Coupling means are provided for loosely connecting the car body of a vehicle to the truck and the forced steering mechanism. The coupling means permits relative lateral movement between the car body and truck while maintaining the forced steering mechanism in a position so as to permit self steering, but no forced steering when the vehicle is moving over tangent or rectilinear tracks. At the same time the degree of such lateral movement and amount of self steering is limited. The coupling means causes the forced steering mechanism to become operative when the vehicle is moving over sharply curved tracks.

Steerable truck for a railway vehicle

A railway car includes conventional steps leading from a lower station platform to the floor level in a vestibule. A lift platform adapted to receive a seat or wheel chair is provided to lift a handicapped person who has difficulty going up or down steps. A motor is provided for moving the lift platform over the steps between the lower level and floor level while maintaining it in a horizontal position.

Railway car trap door lift

A tilt control system comprises a roll bar structure having two separate opposite rotatable members attached on the bottom of both sides of the car body between the car body and bolster. A pair of lever arms connect the ends of the rotatable members to the bolster. Means are provided for selectively rotating the rotatable members to actuate the lever arms in opposite directions to force the car body to tilt laterally with respect to the bolster.
