A system and method are presented for using a two-dimensional (2D) LiDAR for three dimensional (3D) laser mapping. The 2D-LiDAR is mounted in a chassis. The method laser ranges a planar slice of the environment. Simultaneous with laser ranging the planar slice, the 2D LiDAR chassis is rotated about an axis to create a 3D laser mapping of at least a portion of the environment. More explicitly, the 2D LiDAR may include a laser ranger with a planar actuator, typically the combination of a laser and a rotating mirror. In addition, the 2D LiDAR chassis is mounted on a reciprocating actuator. Thus, the step of laser ranging the planar slice includes laser ranging the planar slice in response to the planar actuator. The step of rotating the 2D LiDAR chassis includes rotating the 2D LiDAR chassis around an axis parallel to the planar slice, in response to the reciprocating actuator.

System and method for three-dimensional mapping using two-dimensional LiDAR laser ranging

A system and method are provided for navigation correction assistance. The method provides a vehicle with a camera and an autonomous navigation system comprising a navigation buoy database and a navigation application. The navigation application visually acquires a first navigation buoy with an identity marker and accesses the navigation buoy database, which cross-references the first navigation buoy identity marker to a first spatial position. A first direction marker on the first navigation buoy is also visually acquired. In response to visually acquiring the first direction marker, a first angle is determined between the camera and the first spatial position. A first distance may also be determined between the vehicle and the first navigation buoy using visual methods or auxiliary position or distance measurement devices. Then, in response to the first spatial position, the first angle, and the first distance, the spatial position of the vehicle can be calculated using trigonometry.

A secure mobile printing method and system allow a user to unlock remotely submitted print jobs without having to remember job identifiers and without imposing onerous barcoding requirements on printer firmware or requiring the user to scroll through a list of print jobs on a printer's front panel display screen. An exemplary method, performed on a mobile device, comprises initiating a print job, assigning a job identifier for the print job, selecting a printer for the print job, sending to the selected printer the print job and the job identifier whereby the print job is locked on the selected printer, imaging a printed printer identification code (PIC) on an exposed surface of the selected printer, resolving the printed PIC image to the job identifier, and sending to the selected printer the job identifier whereby the print job is unlocked.

Systems and devices for, and methods of, image-based processing where a device embodiment comprises: (a) a processor; (b) an addressable memory, the memory comprising a set one or more image references, and where the set of image references comprises a rule of interpretation and a rule of execution; and the processor is configured to: (1) compare captured surface indicia of a sheet with the set of at least one image reference; (2) determine the image reference associated with the surface indicia based on the comparison of the surface indicia and the set of at least one image reference; (3) extract a marking by differencing the surface indicia and the image reference; (4) interpret the extracted marking based on the rule of interpretation associated with the image reference; and (5) invoke the rule of execution based on the rule of interpretation.

A method for deferring a print job within a queue is disclosed. The print job is received. The print job is scheduled for despooling to a printing device. Print data and print settings associated with the print job are analyzed. Paper requirements of the print job are determined. Availability of a paper supply associated with the printing device is determined. The print job is deferred if the paper supply does not satisfy the paper requirements.

An imaging device with an adaptive power saving behavior conserves power by establishing reduced power mode entry and/or exit timeout values based on device usage statistics. Such an imaging device in some embodiments comprises at least one interface and a processor communicatively coupled with the interface, wherein under control of the processor the imaging device determines usage statistics for the imaging device based on jobs received on the interface and selects a power save entry timeout value for the imaging device based on the usage statistics.
