An exhaust gas treatment device, which includes an outer layer, an inner layer that is at least in part disposed within the outer layer, and a loose-fill insulation disposed in the volume between the outer layer and the inner layer, where a piece of fiber mat is disposed between the outer layer and the inner layer and forms a barrier that at least partially prevents the loss of the loose-fill insulation from the volume between the outer layer and the inner layer and a manufacturing method that includes placing a loose-fill insulation into the volume of space between an inner layer and an outer layer and positioning a piece of fiber mat between the outer layer and the inner layer to form a barrier that at least partially prevents the loss of the loose-fill insulation from the volume of space between the outer and inner layers.

Loose-fill insulation exhaust gas treatment device and methods of manufacturing

A method is provided for producing an exhaust gas aftertreatment or acoustic device () having a maximum operating temperature T. The method includes the steps of providing a blanket () of silica fiber or alumina insulation material having a weight percentage of SiOor AlOof greater than 65%; calcining the insulating material by heating the blanket () so that all of silica fiber insulation material is raised to a temperature T greater than T; and securing the blanket () on the device () after the calcining step. The blanket is encapsulated in a covering prior to the securing step, and before or after the calcining step, with the covering between the blanket and the device being a selected one of foil, wire mesh, or siliconized fiber glass.

Method of producing an insulated exhaust device

An exhaust treatment unit including a longitudinal core around an axis, a support mat, and powdered insulation impregnated between first and second layers of the support mat. In assembly, the mat is first wrapped around the core once, and powdered insulation is applied to the surface of the unwrapped portion of the mat prior to further winding whereby powdered insulation is disposed between mat layers after further winding.

Method of installing a multi-layer batt, blanket or mat in an exhaust gas aftertreatment or acoustic device

A position adjusting system for adjusting the position of a seat n a vehicle and preventing movement of the seat resulting from external forces acting on the seat. The system includes a seat track fixable to the vehicle, a motor actuator, and a gear train engaged with the motor actuator. The seat track is adapted to cooperate with the seat track to convert movement of the motor actuator into movement of the seat track and the seat. A non-reversing clutch mechanism is coupled with the gear train and adapted to transfer torque from the motor actuator through the gear train to move the seat upon actuation of the motor actuator but locking upon torque being applied through the seat track, thereby preventing the external forces acting on the seat from moving the seat relative to the vehicle.

Position adjusting system for a seat of a vehicle

A method for forming a copper-infiltrated iron powder metal article comprises compacting and sintering a predominately iron powder to form an iron-base matrix that contains between about 1 and 7 weight percent nickel and about 0.1 and 1.2 weight percent phosphorus. A copper metal is infiltrated into pores within the iron-base matrix. The product article comprises between about 2.0 and 23 weight percent copper infiltrant. Preferably, infiltration is carried out concurrently with sintering of the iron powder compact. The resulting product exhibits a particularly useful combination of mechanical properties, including high tensile strength and elongation.

Copper-infiltrated iron powder article and method of forming same

In accordance with the teachings of the present invention a structural member is formed by iron-phosphorous alloy powder having about 0.01 wt % to 1.2 wt % of phosphorous by weight of the powder. The powder is then pressed to the desired matrix density and copper infiltrated such that copper is present in the amount of 1.96 wt % to 23.08 wt %, by weight of the weight of the structural member. The final density of the structured member is in a range of 6.1 to 8.1 g/cc. The structural member formed using the sintered powder metal of the present invention has superior elongation (as much as 10.3% elongation), impact strength (159 N-m charpy unnotched), tensile strength (530 MPa), and modulus (166 GPa) as compared to standard density powder metal.
