Safety or impact resistant laminates are disclosed containing a plurality of laminae and at least on composite interlayer said composite interposed between and bonding any two of the laminae and containing one or more thermoplastic sheets from about 1 to about 30 mils in combined thickness bonded one to another and on each external face by a contact or pressure sensitive adhesive layer.

Safety impact resistant laminates having improved interlayer materials

This invention concerns an asymmetric impact resistant laminate having at least four lamina bonded by a plurality of adhesive interlayers and alternating in composition between glass and polycarbonate from a front impact receiving lamina of glass to a back spall resistant and controlled thickness lamina of polycarbonate.

Safety or impact resistant laminates which avoid the application of heat and excessive pressure in their construction comprising a plurality of laminae, at least one interlayer interposed between any two of the laminae, and a sufficient number of adhesive layers, at least one a contact or pressure sensitive adhesive, to bond all the laminae and interlayers.

Method for making safety or impact resistant laminates

The present invention provides an improved penetration resistant laminate comprising: a plurality of internal and forward penetration resistant thermoplastic resinous laminae of from about 100 mils to about 250 mils in thickness; a back polycarbonate lamina opposite the direction of impact or penetration from about 30 to about 220 mils in thickness; a plurality of compatible adhesive interlayers to bond the laminae; and an internal lamina of glass from about 100 mils to about 250 mils in thickness removed from said back polycarbonate lamina by at least one interposed thermoplastic resinous lamina.
