A connector module permits termination of cross-connect wires on one surface (front) and cable wires on an opposite surface (rear). The module exhibits a configuration, which permits test access and protector (i.e., protection module) mounting from the front surface. The jumper wires are inserted from a side surface through wire guides or channels that bring the wires from the side surface to the front surface where the wires can be terminated without impeding insertion and removal of protection modules from the front of the connector module. There is an intermediate surface below the front surface that is accessible from the front and recessed to allow protection modules to be installed completely below the terminated wires, allowing termination and maintenance of jumper wires after the protection module is installed from the front.

Connector module

A connector block (20) which contains a plurality of electrical contacts (38) is mounted on mounting tabs (32) of a mounting bracket (22) and is releasably locked in place by means of projections (56) on release tabs (52) at the ends of the block. The release tabs are resiliently bendable away from the end wall to pull the projection (56) out from locking holes (34) in the mounting tabs (32).

A grounding arrangement for connector strips which are mounted across the edges of parallel rails. A ground element is connected to the ground system inside the connector strip and extends though the back of the strip to a connector clip. The connector clip is engaged with a flange which extends out from one of the rails.

An electrical connector for connecting together cables containing at least two twisted wire pairs which transmit and receive different electrical signals, The connector has an electrically conductive shield between pairs of connector elements which are respectively connected to the different twisted wire pairs. The connector also has an insulative block with printed circuit segments and switch contacts which together form shunts to connect the twisted pairs together when the connector is disconnected.

An elongated electrically insulative connector block (12) contains internal spring finger electrical conductors 78 arranged in sets in adjacent cells (C.sub.1, C.sub.2, ... C.sub.n) which are arranged in a line, with adjacent cells being mutually offset in a direction transverse to the line; and a connector with a plurality of insert elements lying in parallel planes which are mutually offset so that each element can be inserted into adjacent cells.

A patch cable assembly for making patch connections between connector blocks while protecting against cross talk and signal interference. The assembly includes a patch cable with transmit and receive conductors and a surrounding ground sheath and a printed circuit board insert at the end for insertion into a patch connector block. The insert has an electrically conductive shield between transmit and receive conductors

High frequency patch cord data connector

A connector block assembly for connecting closely spaced wired on which high frequency signals are present, contains pairs of spring finger connectors with electrically conductive shields between different pairs. Ground contacts are arranged to be engaged by an insert module in advance of its engagement with the spring fingers and a detents and projection arrangement serves to hold the insert module at different operating positions.

Adaptive racking and distribution frame systems for handling optical fiber cables and including racking sections with wall portions that can be replaced without removing the section or displacing cables in the section and further including housings with moveable shelves that can be adapted to hold optical fiber splices, optical fiber connectors or optical fiber storage spools.

A gas tube fail safe device for use in individual subscriber circuit telephone mmodules and related equipment, in which a fusible element is adapted to by-pass the conductive function of the gas tube in the event of gas tube failure. In one embodiment the construction provides for the fusing of the fusible element upon the occurrence of a sustained current overload. In another embodiment, this operation is supplemented by provision of secondary air gap means operative upon the occurrence of momentary excess voltage surges in the presence of a defective gas tube.

Gas tube fail safe device for telephone protector modules

An improved telephone subscriber circuit protector module providing plural surge voltage and excess current protection elements including so-called sneak current protection. The module includes a three-element gas tube which protects against voltage surges in the range of 200 to 300 volts, and includes fail safe protection relative to the gas tube should the gas tube become non-conductive over its intended range of protection. The fail safe protection is thermally operated under the influence of high current. Secondary air gap protection supplements the operation of the gas tube in the event of gas tube failure, and is operative to ground momentary voltage surges in the area of 1500 volts. Separate sneak current protection employing heat coils are operative in a range below one ampere flow, and an alternate form provides for the opening of the subscriber side of the line rather than the grounding of it. All of the protective elements communicate with a common ground plane forming part of a ground assembly.

Telephone circuit protector module having plural circuit grounding means

A telephone connector block with slotted openings and having shaped wire guide elements located in said slotted openings particularly suited for bracket or cradle type installation with or without a wall-mounted backboard. This block offers total front administration with the possiblility of rear connection for cutover and test access by temporarily disconnecting the block from the cradle. Improved strain relief is obtained by threading the individual conductors into angularly configured passageways leading to front mounted quick clip connectors.

Telephone connector block for cradle type installtion

A device for providing security and environmental protection to an individual telephone subscribed pair having an appearance at a building entrance terminal. The device prevents unauthorized removal of an R.J. 11 plug, and selectively closes the opening leading to a corresponding R.J. 11 jack. In one embodiment, a sliding door is fixed upon a mounting plate and is secured in position by a simple tumbler type lock. In another embodiment, the lock itself includes integrally formed flanges that perform the same function as the sliding plate. In still another embodiment, the plate is substituted by a small padlock hasp.

Locking device for telephone subscriber plugs

An improved guide means for conductors passing through a telephone connector block in which the conductors are prevented from becoming bunched or unidentifiable. The guide means includes a plurality of slidably engaged tray-like elements, each providing channels for a plurality of conductors connected to terminals in a given horizontal plane, the tray-like elements being serially insertible into corresponding recesses in the block as the block is progressively wired.

Conductor guide means for telephone connector blocks

A composite type electrode for use with telephone protector modules, including a carbon facing adapted to provide sufficient resistance to arcing, and a metallic alloy bonded to the facing having a relatively high specific heat thereby forming a heat sink capable of absorbing a substantial portion of the heat generated during a continuous excess current surge prior to the actuation of a heat coil assembly or other firing element.
