An electrical connector for conducting high frequency signals includes a number of input and output terminals that are interconnected by a pair of metallic lead frames that are mounted on a dielectric spring block. The lead frames are identical to each other and comprise several flat elongated conductors, each conductor terminating in a spring contact at one end and an insulation-displacing connector at the other. The lead frames are mounted on top of each other and their conductors are all generally parallel and close to each other. Only three of the conductors of each lead frame are arranged to overlap each other; and this occurs in a designated crossover region without electrical contact being made because of a reentrant bend in the conductors in the crossover region. As a result, crosstalk between specific conductors can be reduced by judiciously choosing the location of the crossover and the particular crossover pattern.

High frequency electrical connector

A back-end variation control cap configured for use with a jack module including a plurality of insulation displacement connectors, the cap being configured for routing a plurality of twisted conductor pairs. The cap includes an upper portion, a bottom portion, a plurality of twisted pair channels extending between the upper portion and the bottom portion, and a pair of opposed end walls, each of the end walls including a plurality of wire constraints disposed thereon. Each wire constraint has opposed surfaces configured to retain one of the conductors and each twisted conductor pair extends through one of the twisted pair channels and the conductors of the twisted conductor pairs are disposed in the plurality of wire constraints such that each conductor is aligned with one of the insulation displacement connectors when the bottom portion is disposed adjacent the jack module.

Back-end variation control cap for use with a jack module

The present invention relates to a communications connector comprising an internal circuit board having a plurality of circuit board layers that include a plurality of capacitive and inductive devices that counteract the crosstalk created by a first other connector mated to the communications connector. In addition, the communications connector comprises an internal fanout assembly mounted to the internal circuit board that has a plurality of conductors arranged so as to form a compensation area that counteracts crosstalk created by a second other connector mated to the communications connector. The circuit board can comprise at least one capacitive device provided on its outer surface that is manually reducible in size so as to adjust the amount of capacitance created therewith such that the amount of crosstalk compensation provided by the circuit board can be adjusted.

Communications connector having crosstalk compensation

A communication connector arrangement has a contact wire support, and at least a first and a second pair of terminal contact wires with portions fixed on the support. Each pair of contact wires has contact portions for establishing electrical connections with a mating connector. A first leading portion of a first contact wire of the first pair, and a second leading portion of a second contact wire of the second pair, extend generally parallel to one another and are terminated at their ends by a capacitance element. Capacitive crosstalk compensation is thus produced at the contact portions of the terminal contact wires, when the latter are engaged by the mating connector. In a disclosed embodiment, the arrangement includes a jack frame joined with the contact wire support, and the terminal contact wires are positioned inside a connector opening in the jack frame to connect electrically with a plug connector when inserted in the connector opening in the frame.

Capacitive crosstalk compensation arrangement for a communication

An electrical connector, comprising an insulating housing, a plurality of conductors mounted within the insulating housing in at least two rows of aligned pairs, a first compensation section which provides a first crosstalk compensation, and a second compensation section which provides a second crosstalk compensation. A first end portion of each conductor is adapted to electrically connect with contacts of another connector while a second end portion of each conductor is adapted to electrically connect with an electrical device such as a printed circuit board. The first compensation section is located within the insulating housing with the conductors being arranged therein in an orientation to provide the first crosstalk compensation. The second compensation section further is located within the connector and typically comprises a multi-layered circuit board.

Connector having internal crosstalk compensation

A communication connector assembly has a base support, and at least first and second pairs of terminal contact wires with base portions mounted on the base support. The free end portions of the contact wires define a zone of contact within which electrical connections are established with a mating connector, and each pair of contact wires defines a different signal path in the connector assembly. The first and the second pair of contact wires have corresponding leading portions extending from the free end portions, to a side of the zone of contact opposite from the base portions. A leading portion of a contact wire of the first pair, and a leading portion of a contact wire of the second pair, are constructed and arranged for capacitively coupling to one another thus conveying capacitive crosstalk compensation to the zone of contact where offending crosstalk is introduced by a mated connector.

Communication connector assembly with capacitive crosstalk compensation

A crosstalk compensating connector jack assembly has a dielectric spring block having a staggered configuration of lead frames. The conductors of one of the lead frames are maintained at a first level in the block and the conductors of a second one of the lead frames are maintained at a second level within the block. The two levels are spaced apart a distance that permits the formation of interacting inductive loops. For at least two pairs of conductors, one of the conductors is in the first lead frame and the other conductor is in the second lead frame, thereby forming two inductive loops which interact with each other to reduce crosstalk. The spring block is made of two substantially identical halves adapted to be latched together to hold the conductors in place.

Crosstalk compensation for connector jack

A network interface device includes a base, a cover and a circuit board secured in the base. The circuit board includes terminations for input and output communication lines. Each pair of input and output communication lines corresponds to a single standard telephone line, a high speed data line or other type of line. The communication line terminations may be implemented as insulation displacement connectors, and the cover may include projections on its inner surface such that closing the cover also closes the insulation displacement connectors on the circuit board. For each communication line, the circuit board may include a subscriber bridge which establishes a breakable connection between the input and output line terminations via traces in the circuit board. In fixed wireless, fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and other similar applications, the circuit board may also include terminations for input and output power lines, and the base and cover may be extended to accommodate an uninterruptible power supply. The power supply supplies the input power line to the corresponding termination on the circuit board, and the output power line is supplied to a power input of a remote unit in a fixed wireless system or other electronic unit external to the network interface device. The circuit board may also include power protection circuitry for protecting against surges on the input and output communication and power lines.

Modular network interface device

A snap together spring block enables the reliable capture, formation and support of metallic conductors known as lead frames. First and second body halves are designed to mate forming the complete spring block. Each body half incorporates a plurality of cavities and projections, similar to hills and valleys. The cavities and projections can be designed to fit various configurations of lead frames. Integrally molded or formed into one of the body halves is an internal attachment mechanism, such as a clip, which is designed to fit an internal recess molded into the second body half, or mating half, of the spring block for mating the two halves. The plurality of cavities and projections are alternately spaced such that when the first body half is mated to the second body half, the projections are received within the cavities forming a plurality of apertures. Because each half contains both cavities and projections, a plurality of planes are formed when the mating halves are joined, in which lead frames are interposed. The conductors are supported such that they remain rigidly fixed relative to each other. Formed into external surface of second body half is a radius and parallel channels adapted to receive the metallic conductors of the lead frames when the metallic conductors are formed downwardly and rearwardly around the radius of the external surface of the second body half.

Snap together spring block and method

A cross-talk compensaring circuit member for use with communications systems connector arrays. The circuit member comprises a wiring board on which are printed conductive paths for each of the leads of the several (usually four) pairs in a connector jack, and the board may accommodate several such jacks. The conductive paths are routed in a manner to create facing inductive loop portions which are substantially mirror images of each other to produce inductive interaction among the different pair combinations. Capacitive coupling is also used in one embodiment.

Connector cross-talk compensation

The invention is a modular cross-connect system which has a connector block having an array of connector jacks therein and which is mountable on a panel. The block has pivot pins for pivotally mounting it in an aperture in the panel, and the rear of the block has connectors thereon for connecting wires or other signal carriers to the connector jacks. The block can be pivoted to give access to the connectors from in front of the panel so that connections can be made, after which the block can be pivoted back to its operative position and latched in place. In a second embodiment of the invention, the block is supported by retaining clips extending from the front of the panel so that it can be supported in front of the panel during wiring after which it is inserted into an aperture in the panel and pivotally supported therein, with means on the block for latching it in place.

Modular cross-connect system

A plug for interconnecting a pair of wires at its input with a pair of insulation displacement connectors (IDC) at its output is improved. The plug comprises a dielectric housing and a pair of non-insulated conductors within the housing that cross over and are spaced-apart from each other. Each conductor comprises a generally flat blade portion for insertion into an IDC at one end, and a terminal for making electrical contact with a wire at the other. In the illustrative embodiment of the invention, the terminal comprises an insulation displacement connector. Additionally, the conductors are identical to each other, but are reverse-mounted with respect to each other to achieve crossover.
