The present disclosure describes manifold lay lengths for each twisted pair of conductors in a cable comprising at least one twisted pair of insulated conductors, reducing both internal and alien crosstalk. The lay length of each pair can be adjusted, either continuously or in discrete steps, between a shortest lay length and a longest lay length, such that each pair has each lay length at some longitudinal point along the cable. The lay lengths of each pair are staggered in their progression between shortest and longest lay length to avoid pairs having the same lay lengths for any significant length along the cable.

Manifold pair lay data cable

Methods of design, manufacture and implementations of balanced twisted pair cables with a barrier tape or shield, with tuned attenuation, impedance, and coupling properties. A filler is included within the cable to separate the pairs and provide a support base for the shield, allowing for optimized ground plane uniformity and stability for tuned attenuation, impedance, and coupling properties. The filler orientation, shape, and size provides support for the shield such that a gap is provided between the shield and the twisted pairs with a given minimum size without increasing the maximum cable core size. The length of arms of the filler may be adjusted to fine-tune the size and shape of this gap and control air-dielectric volume and radial contact or spacing between any pair(s) and the shield, tuning electrical performance characteristics caused by non-linear effects of electromagnetic interactions at short ranges between the pairs, shield, filler, or other components.

Shield-supporting filler for data communications cables

Two electromagnetic interference (EMI) controlling tape application methodologies for unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable include Fixed Tape Control (FTC) and Oscillating Tape Control (OTC). In FTC, tape application angle and edge placement are controlled to maintain position of the tape edges over a base of nonconductive filler in the cable. In OTC, the tape application angle is continuously varied, resulting in crossing of the tape edges over all of the pairs of conductors with varying periodicity. In both implementations, the filler allows a cylindrical shape.

High performance data communications cable

A cable exhibiting reduced crosstalk between transmission media includes a core having a profile with a shape which defines spaces or channels to maintain a spacing between transmission media in a finished cable. The core is formed of a conductive material to further reduce crosstalk. A method of producing a cable introduces a core as described above into the cable assembly and imparts a cable closing twist to the assembly.

Enhanced data cable with cross-twist cabled core profile

A cable that provides reduced alien crosstalk between similar twisted pairs in cables that are in close proximity to one another and/or crosstalk between twisted pairs of the cable. In one example, a cable includes first, second and third twisted pairs, a shaped filler including a body portion and a plurality of tines extending outward from the body portion, the plurality of tines defining a plurality of channels in which the twisted pairs are individually disposed, and an outer jacket surrounding the twisted pairs and the shaped filler, wherein the shaped filler is constructed such that the body portion provides a first spacing between the first twisted pair and the second twisted pair, and one of the plurality of tines provides a second spacing between the second twisted pair and the third twisted pair, with the filler configured such that the second spacing is substantially smaller than the first spacing.

Twisted pair cable having improved crosstalk isolation

Cables including a plurality of twisted pairs of insulated conductors, a separator disposed among the plurality of twisted pairs so as to physically separate a first twisted pair from a second twisted pair, and a jacket surrounding the plurality of twisted pairs and the separator. The jacket may include a plurality of protrusions extending away from an inner circumferential surface of the jacket toward a center of the cable. The plurality of protrusions are configured so as to hold the plurality of twisted pairs away from the inner circumferential surface of the jacket, and may provide an air gap between the plurality of twisted pairs of insulated conductors and the inner circumferential surface of the jacket.

Cables including a plurality of twisted pairs of insulated conductors, a separator disposed among the plurality of twisted pairs so as to physically separate a first twisted pair from a second twisted pair, and a jacket surrounding the plurality of twisted pairs and the separator. The jacket may include a plurality of protrusions extending away from an inner circumferential surface of the jacket toward a center of the cable. In one example, a boundary of the air gap adjacent the inner circumferential surface of the jacket is arc shaped.

A telecommunications cable having a cable core in which each conductor is surrounded by an individual dual layer insulation of an inner layer of flame retardant polyolefin and an outer layer of another material, for example, fluorinated ethylene propylene, MFA, PVDF, ECTFE, PTFE, or foamed PFA.

A number of examples of insulated conductors having geometrically optimized shapes and form factors, that may be used in twisted-pair cables and other types of communication cable to enhance the performance of, and/or reduce the cost of manufacturing such cables.

Electrical cable comprising geometrically optimized conductors

A cable that provides reduced alien crosstalk between similar twisted pairs in cables that are in close proximity to one another and/or crosstalk between twisted pairs of the cable. In one example, a cable includes a first twisted pair of insulated conductors, a second twisted pair of insulated conductors, a shaped separator positioned so as to separate the first twisted pair from the second twisted pair, and a jacket disposed about the first and second twisted pairs and the separator, wherein the shaped separator comprises a central arm and at least one enlarged portion disposed at a first end of the central arm.
