The present disclosure is directed to methods and apparatus that monitor pedestrian traffic and that adjust the behavior of traffic signals at intersections and 'walk'-'do not walk' indicators associated with particular crosswalks. Methods and apparatus consistent with the present disclosure may receive image or sensor data, may monitor the status of different traffic flow, and may adjust the timing of signal lights or walking indications as conditions change at an intersection. In certain instances, a traffic controller at one intersection may receive information collected by other traffic controllers along a set of streets that lead to a particular intersection. Traffic controllers that receive images of an intersection may identify partition the intersection into a set of safe and unsafe zones as those traffic controllers identify when pedestrians can safely cross an intersection.

Adaptively controlling traffic movements for pedestrian safety

A traffic control system and a method of automatic zone creation and modification for a smart traffic camera to be used in adaptive traffic management at an intersection are disclosed. One aspect of the present disclosure is a method including applying default zone parameters to define detection zones at one or more sensors installed at an intersection, the detection zones being used by the one or more sensors for monitoring and detecting traffic conditions at the intersection; determining a current vehicular traffic flow rate and a current pedestrian traffic flow rate at the intersection; determining if a triggering condition for adjusting one or more of the default zone parameters; and adjusting the one or more of the default zone parameters if the triggering condition is met.

System and method of adaptive traffic management at an intersection

Methods and apparatus consistent with the present disclosure may receive different sets of image or sensor data that may be compared for inconsistencies. Each of these sets of received data may include images of a roadway or intersection that are processed to identify objects and object locations at or near the roadway/intersection. In certain instances data received from a camera at a traffic control system may be compared with data received from a computer at a vehicle. Alternatively or additionally, different sets of data acquired by a same or by different cameras may be compared for discrepancies. When one or more discrepancies are identified in different sets of received data, corrective actions may be initiated. In certain instances, such corrective actions may include recalibrating an image acquisition system or may include sending message to a vehicle computer that identifies the discrepancy.

Broadcasting details of objects at an intersection

The present disclosure is directed to methods and apparatus that manage the flow of traffic. Methods and systems consistent with the present disclosure may allow biometric information of individuals to be collected when access privileges associated with particular individuals are validated or updated. These methods may allow a supervisor to temporarily or permanently authorize certain employees to access components that are located within a traffic control cabinet and these methods may allow changes in traffic signal light timing to be authorized according to a set of rules. Such authorization rules may require proposed signal light timing changes to be approved by a supervisor before a proposed change is implemented. Methods and systems consistent with the present disclosure may also cause components within a control cabinet to be disabled or disconnected when a signal light control cabinet is accessed by unauthorized persons.

Modifying operational settings of a traffic signal

A method of determining optimal location for reaching destined locations by traversing traffic in a least time of determining is disclosed. Traffic information and incident information may be received using an input device. The traffic information and the incident information may be used to determine traffic and incidents associated with an area, and successively to determine a correlation score. The correlation score is calculated by analyzing the traffic information and the incident information. Further, an optimal location is determined based on the correlation score, for staging a first responder. Thus, the first responders could reach any of the destined locations in least time, when an incident occurs.

Optimizing emergency services logistics using data from a smart traffic control system

A camera whose field of view includes an intersection of thoroughfares captures images and/or video of the intersection. Based on the captured images and/or video, a computer system surveys vehicular traffic through the intersection visible and defines both a risk zone of the intersection and a safe zone associated with the intersection. The computer system identifies that an at-risk vehicle is present in the risk zone and automatically modifying a timing of a traffic signal indicator to allow the at-risk vehicle to pass through the risk zone into the safe zone, for example by extending a green or yellow light.

Adaptively controlling traffic movements for driver safety

A traffic control system and a method of automatic zone creation for a smart traffic camera to be used in adaptive traffic management at an intersection are disclosed. In one aspect of the present disclosure, a method includes receiving traffic data at an intersection; creating zones at the intersection to be applied to one or more smart traffic cameras installed at the intersection; determining whether the zones are to be validated; validating the zones upon determining that the zones are to be validated; and applying the validated zones to the one or more smart traffic cameras at the intersection.

A traffic control system and a method for optimizing navigational routing based on per-intersection real-time traffic conditions data. One aspect is a method of providing navigational guidance. The method includes identifying at least one intersection along at least one initial route to a destination; modifying the at least one initial route based on user preferences and traffic conditions data associated with the at least one intersection to yield at least one modified route; receiving a selection of a route from among the at least one modified route; receiving updated traffic conditions data for at least one corresponding intersection along the route selected; and modifying the route selected based on the updated traffic conditions data.

Adaptive optimization of navigational routes using traffic data

A current or forecasted weather condition at an intersection or roadway may be identified using cameras and/or other weather sensors connected with traffic infrastructure installed at the intersection or roadway. Adverse traffic events typically associated with weather conditions of the same type as the identified weather condition may be determined, for example based on historical records of correlations between weather and traffic. The traffic infrastructure may adjust an option, for example by adjusting traffic signal timings, to mitigate the adverse traffic event in response to identifying the weather condition.

Adaptive traffic control based on weather conditions

A traffic control system and a method are provided for detecting changes in traffic patterns at an intersection, establishing traffic rules therefore, and communicating the same to objects at the intersection. The method comprises receiving, by a processor, traffic data at an intersection; determining, by the processor, an average path taken by one or more objects at the intersection; determining, by the processor, a deviation of the average path from a historical average path; based on the deviation, determining by the processor, a traffic rule is to be implemented for incoming objects detected; and communicating, by the processor, the traffic rule to the incoming objects.

System and method of navigating vehicles

A vehicle and a traffic infrastructure device both determine their respective locations, at least one of which uses a positioning device to determine its location. At least one sends its respective location to the other, which compares the two locations, identifies a location difference, generates calibration information based on the location difference, and either calibrates the positioning device based on the calibration information or transmits the calibration information to the other device for the other device to calibrate the positioning device.

Correcting location data of connected vehicle

Systems and methods of adaptive traffic control based on detected anomalies in traffic conditions are disclosed. One aspect of the present disclosure is a method of adaptive traffic control that includes receiving traffic data at an intersection; determining statistics associated with traffic at the intersection based on the traffic data; detecting an anomaly in the traffic based on the statistics; determining an anomaly rule based on a portion of the statistics associated with the traffic at the intersection over at least one time interval prior to detection of the anomaly; and utilizing the anomaly rule to adaptively control the traffic at the intersection to prevent future occurrences of the anomaly at the intersection.

Adaptive traffic control using object tracking and identity details

The present disclosure is directed to systems, methods and computer-readable mediums for controlling traffic using traffic rules generated based on types of vehicles and associated traffic flow rates. In one aspect, a device includes memory having computer-readable instructions stored therein and one or more processors. The one or more processors are configured to execute the computer-readable instructions to receive video data of traffic flowing through an intersection; based on the video data, determine if a rate of flow of the traffic is greater than a predetermined threshold; determine a correlation between the rate of flow and one of a plurality of object types if the rate of flow is not greater than the predetermined threshold; determine a rule for controlling the traffic flow through the intersection based on the correlation; and cause adjustments to traffic control settings of a traffic light at the intersection based on the rule.

System and method for controlling vehicular traffic

The present disclosure is directed to methods and apparatus for providing directions to user devices that belong to pedestrians or to individuals traveling on pedestrian pathways. Pedestrians or other users of user devices wishing to travel along pedestrian pathways toward a destination may be provided instructions according to a criterion, a basic assumption, or a rule. While commonly such criteria may relate to providing individuals with directions to walk from a current location to a specified destination in a minimal time, methods and apparatus consistent with the present disclosure may also allow for a user to specify other rules or criteria that are consistent with one or more objectives or parameters specified by that user. To accomplish this, information may be received from user devices and instructions may be sent to those user devices as users of those user devices progress toward respective destinations.

Pedestrian walking routes using a smart traffic control system

Systems and methods of adaptive traffic control based on detected anomalies in traffic conditions and utilizing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to determine root causes thereof are disclosed. One aspect of the present disclosure is a method including receiving traffic data at an intersection; determining statistics associated with traffic at the intersection based on the traffic data; detecting an anomaly in the traffic based on the statistics; utilizing an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to determine a root cause of the anomaly; and communicating an anomaly rule based on the root cause to a light controller to control traffic at the intersection.
