Porous leach pipe and method for leaching metals from mining ores. The porous pipe may be buried beneath the surface of a pile of mined ore, providing a more even and uniform distribution of the leaching solution across the pile, increasing metal yields, reducing water consumption and eliminating pooling and ponding of the solution on the top of the piles as occurs with prior art drip line emitters.

Method and apparatus for leaching metal from mining ore

The present invention relates to an aeration device for use in a liquid medium. The device includes a housing adapted to float within the medium such that a top portion thereof remains above a top surface of the medium. The housing has a bottom portion and an open side portion. The device further includes a hose affixed to the bottom portion of the housing substantially parallel to the surface of the liquid medium. The hose has a wall with a plurality of pores formed therein. The device further includes a gas-supplying pipe affixed to the hose and means for supplying a gas to the pipe such that the gas passes through the pipe and into the hose.

An aeration device or diffuser is disclosed. The diffuser preferably includes a porous hose adapted to allow gas to escape therefrom, a rigid element disposed within the hose, the rigid element being constructed of material denser than water and a fitting suitable for attaching the hose to an air supply, the fitting disposed within the hose at one end of the hose. Methods of use of the diffuser and of assembling the diffuser are also disclosed.

Aeration device for use as a diffuser

This invention relates to the manufacture of flexible porous plastic aeration pipe having an essentially uniform porosity throughout its length. The plastic pipe of this invention has a gas permeable wall of thermoset polymer particles and thermoplastic binder for the particles with a substantially uniform plurality of micropores through the wall of about 0.001 inch to 0.004 inch along its length for diffusion of gas therethrough and transfer to a medium. The thermoset polymer particles have a mesh size of about 60 to about 140 mesh, preferably approximately 80 to 100 mesh. The method of manufacture includes volumetric delivery of thermoset polymer particles and thermoplastic binder particles to a mixing chamber for preblending and then controlled volumetric feeding of the preblend into an extruder to form the porous aeration pipe.

This invention relates to the manufacture of flexible porous plastic irrigation and aeration pipe having an essentially uniform porosity throughout its length. The process for making the porous pipe includes volumetrically delivering to a mixing hopper for preblending thermoset polymer particles and a thermoplastic binder for the particles, preblending the components in the hopper, volumetrically feeding from the hopper the preblended components for controlled discharge into an extruder, and extruding the preblended components to produce the porous plastic pipe.

Method of blending components for porous plastic pipe processing

This invention relates to the manufacture of flexible porous irrigation pipe having an essentially uniform porosity throughout its length which is produced by extruding an essentially moisture-free non-homogeneous, mixture of pre-vulcanized elastomeric particles such as reclaimed crumb rubber from vehicle tire treads in major amount and a thermoplastic polymer binder such as low-density polyethylene in minor amount. The mixture is intimately mixed and extruded from an unvented extruder through an annular extruder die at a precisely-controlled temperature and then through a lengthy cooling liquid bath, the rate of pull-off through the extruder die and liquid bath being maintained constant. The leak rate of the fluid delivered from the porous pipe is substantially uniform over a lengthy prescribed dimension exhibiting a delivery variation of less than about 5 percent per unit of length.
