A seismic receiver is provided for measuring seismic signals transmitted through the earth and received in a well borehole. A reversible electrical motor drives a harmonic drive reducer which amplifies the torque provided to drive a ball screw. The ball screw moves linearly along the axis of the well borehole to control the extension of a clamp arm into and out of an extended position in contact with subsurface earth adjacent the well borehole. A releasable electric clutch is provided so the receiver is retrievable in the event of a power failure while the clamp arm is extended.

Borehole seismic receiver

A method and apparatus for generating a seismic wave in a borehole in the earth is disclosed. A portion of the borehole, which may be the bottom of the hole or any other point along its length, is selected as the site for seismic wave generation. A device is provided to oscillate the borehole fluid in a selected portion of the borehole to establish a resonant standing pressure wave of desired frequency within the fluid. The wave is maintained by continuing to supply energy to the fluid to replace losses due to fluid friction, structural losses and radiated acoustic energy. The standing wave thus created is radiated through the borehole wall into the earth and is eventually received by seismic detectors located on the surface.

Method and apparatus for generating seismic waves

A passive temperature control shipment container is provided having a central chamber surrounding a sample or specimen wherein the central chamber has two conductive walls, one of which is in contact with a heat source and one with a heat sink to provide a specified temperature change profile and to maintain a specified temperature time relationship in the shipping container.

A photovoltaic concentrator utilizes as an airtight enclosure a fused glass structure similar to an automotive sealed-beam headlamp. One of the halves is aluminized to provide a reflector for the impinging sunlight and for focusing it on a photocell carried within the enclosure. The foregoing structure because of developed mass production techniques is low cost and in addition the airtight rugged enclosure protects the fragile reflective surface and photocell.

Photovoltaic concentrator

A parabolic trough solar energy collector including an elongated support with a plurality of ribs secured thereto and extending outwardly therefrom. One surface of said ribs is shaped to define a parabola and is adapted to receive and support a thin reflecting sheet which forms a parabolic trough reflecting surface. One or more of said collectors are adapted to be joined end to end and supported for joint rotation to track the sun. A common drive system rotates the reflectors to track the sun; the reflector concentrates and focuses the energy along a focal line. The fluid to be heated is presented along the focal line in a suitable pipe which extends therealong.

Parabolic trough solar energy collector assembly

A tennis ball retrieving and propelling device for placement on a surface having a ball delivery tube and a carrousel type ball retriever positioned below the ball delivery tube for receiving balls to be pneumatically transported to the ball delivery tube. The delivery tube is provided with a mechanism for constricting the effective cross sectional area thereof. The mechanism is provided with a releasing element for releasing the constriction to permit a ball to be pneumatically propelled through the tube. The mechanism includes a section of flexible tubing attached to the delivery tube, a cable surrounding the flexible tubing and a device attached to the cable for tensioning and releasing the cable to restrict and release a ball traveling through the flexible tube. The balls are pneumatically retrieved and propelled from the propelling device. The propelling device has elements for controlling the speed, azimuth and elevation of a ball delivered therefrom.
