An apparatus for reducing vibration has a mount for attaching to a vibrating body, such as the frame of an aircraft. A plate is spaced from the mount with a mass there between. A first elastomeric ring is compressed between the mass and the mount, and a second elastomeric ring is compressed between the mass and the plate. The rings act as a spring having a stiffness that defines a resonant frequency at which the mass oscillates. Vibration in the body is reduced by the mass movement absorbing vibrational energy and the energy absorption is maximized when the mass resonates at the vibration frequency. A controller senses body vibration and operates a mechanism that alters the spacing between the mount and the plate thereby adjusting the spring stiffness. The stiffness of the spring is changed until the resonant frequency of the mass is tuned to the vibration frequency of the body.

Adaptively tuned elastomeric vibration absorber

A linkage rod for absorbing shocks and vibrations has a housing with a central bore. A spacer tube and a spacer load plate are inserted into the central bore. Several resilient members preferably formed of crimped metal wire strands are located in the central bore between the spacer load plate and a piston load plate. A mounting member has a shoulder formed between body and neck portions. A snubber cap having a central opening with an inwardly-directed wall is positioned around the mounting member. A snubber nut is attached to the mounting member to trap the inwardly-directed wall between the snubber nut and the shoulder. The snubber cap is fastened to the housing and the mounting member may move axially relative to the housing. The resilient members resist axial movement of the mounting member.

An inertia force generating device comprises two pairs of coaxial counterrotating eccentric rotors, whose rotational speeds and relative positons are automatically and continuously controlled so as to cancel undesirable vibrations produced by another device. Within each rotor pair, the two rotors have an adjustable angle between their mass centers, so that the effective eccentricity of the pair can be varied, and the phase between the two pairs can also be changed, to alter the direction of the maximum or minimum inertial forces developed. The four rotors include shells of different diameter, nested together on a center plane of the device, or parallel plates configured to maintain a minimum spread of mass centers along the rotational axis.

Inertia force generating device

An avionic tray assembly comprising a tray (12) having upper and lower surfaces (28, 30) with an opening (24) is formed in the tray to let the passage of air therethrough. A U-shaped channel member (26) is secured to the lower surface of the tray beneath the peripheral edge (40) of the opening with the opening located above a central portion of the channel to create an overhanging lip above the channel. An elastomeric gasket is located in the channel with a lower portion occupying substantially all of the space within the channel and beneath the overhanging lip and an upper portion extending out of the channel and above the surface of the tray to engage and support an object positioned above the opening in the tray.

An isolator designed to prevent transmission of shock and vibration from one structure to another, comprising a device structured to provide orthogonal excursion in three directions and comprising a plurality of nested, concentrically-arranged component structures, each of which is structured to permit orthogonal excursion and a connector element for securing structures in nested parallel relation so that the composite resistance to displacement is the sum of the resistances of the individual components. The component structure may decrease in size from the outside to the inside or be all of the same size.
