A driver for driving simultaneously a variable number of firing resistors for a printhead includes a drive circuit for supplying a drive signal for firing the variable number of firing resistors, and a circuit for adjusting a voltage or current magnitude of the drive signal in dependence on the variable number of firing resistors to be fired simultaneously.

Fluid ejection device with identification cells

A printing apparatus includes one of a first cartridge or a second cartridge. The first cartridge has a first contact array including a plurality of contact areas. The second cartridge has a second contact array including a plurality of contact areas. The locations of the contact areas of the first contact array are different from locations of the contact areas of the second contact array. The printing apparatus further includes a carriage that interchangeably receives the first cartridge and the second cartridge. A controller identifies whether the first cartridge or the second cartridge is installed in the carriage.

An analog encoder of one embodiment of the invention is disclosed that includes an input mechanism, a digital signal processing mechanism, and an output mechanism. The input mechanism is to receive and digitize different analog encoder signals. The digital signal processing mechanism is to generate inverse analog encoder signals from the different analog encoder signals, and to apply dynamically changeable gain and offset corrections in real-time. The output mechanism is to generate digital quadrature signals from crossing points among the analog encoder signals and the inverse analog encoder signals, and a position value based on a direction of the digital quadrature signals for external access.

Analog encoder

A fluid ejection device comprising an identification line adapted to receive a program signal and a read signal and identification cells electrically coupled to the identification line. Each of the identification cells comprises a memory circuit and a memory element. The memory circuit is adapted to receive and respond to signals in order to selectively store a value in the memory circuit, which determines whether the identification cell is responsive to signals received on the identification line.

A print cartridge includes a cartridge body having a lower portion and a vertical wall. A printhead is coupled with the lower portion of the cartridge body. A contact array including a plurality of contact areas is disposed on the vertical wall. The contact array is one of at least two contact arrays. Each contact array has a different pattern of contact area locations. A portion of the contact areas of each contact array are capable of providing identity information for the print cartridge.

A scanning mechanism of one embodiment of the invention is disclosed that includes light-emitting units, an integrating detector, and pulse-width modulated (PWM) drivers. Each light-emitting unit can emit colored light corresponding to a color of a color space. The integrating detector can detect the colored light emitted by the light-emitting units as reflected off a surface by integrating the colored light detected over a period of time. Each PWM driver can turn on a corresponding light-emitting unit at a duty cycle.

A fluid-ejection mechanism of one embodiment of the invention is disclosed that includes one or more electrical contacts and one or more electrically grounded electrostatic discharge (ESD) shunt mechanisms. The electrical contacts make contact with corresponding contacts of one or more fluid-ejection assemblies that are otherwise exposed. The ESD shunt mechanisms to protect the electrical contacts from ESD when the electrical contacts are exposed.

Systems, methods, and devices are provided for instruction architecture. One embodiment includes a first integrated circuit (IC). The first IC includes at least two instruction stacks and an arbiter coupled to the at least two instruction stacks. A second IC is provided. The first and the second ICs are coupled using a serial interface.

An apparatus has a first H-bridge having a first motor contact on a shared first side and a second motor contact on a second side. The apparatus also has a half H-bridge having a third motor contact on a third side, wherein the shared first side of the first H-bridge and the third side of the half H-bridge may be operated as a second H-bridge. Another apparatus has a first H-bridge having a first motor contact on a shared first side and a second motor contact on a second side. The other apparatus also has a switch coupled to a third motor contact, wherein the shared first side of the first H-bridge and the switch may be operated as a partial H-bridge. A method of operating an alternate H-bridge and a method of flexibly using an H-bridge circuit on an ASIC are also provided.
