Provided is an electrostatic sensing chuck for attracting particles to a portion of a particle contact surface near a deposition electrode, the electrostatic sensing chuck comprising a pixel comprising: a deposition electrode (DE) for selectively establishing an attraction field (E ) at the particle contact surface; a shield electrode (SE) oppositely biased with respect to the deposition electrode; a charge sensing circuit to measure charge accumulated on each of the deposition electrode and the shield electrode, wherein the charge sensing circuit subtracts a second charge it senses at the shield electrode from a first charge it senses at the deposition electrode, thereby determining accumulated charge at the deposition electrode balanced by accumulated charge at the shield electrode.

Methods using dry powder deposition apparatuses

A light-emitting fiber comprises an optical fiber having a number of light-emitting elements disposed along the length of one surface thereof. The light-emitting elements include a segmented hole injecting electrode on which an electro-luminescent material, such as an OLED material, is disposed and an electron injecting electrode overlying the OLED layer. The segmented hole injecting electrodes are connected together by an electrical conductor disposed on a side surface of the optical fiber. Electrical contacts connect to the electron injecting electrode and are disposed, at least in part, so as to not overlie the OLED layer. The electrodes, OLED material and contacts are deposited on the optical fibers by mask deposition, preferably utilizing masks adapted to contemporaneously process a plurality of fibers.

Light-emitting fiber, and method for making same

A number of light-emitting fibers in side-by-side array comprise a display. Each fiber includes a number of light-emitting elements disposed along the length of one surface of an optical fiber, such as an electro-luminescent material, e.g., an OLED material, disposed between hole injecting and electron injecting electrodes. Contacts on the top ones of the electrodes are connected by a conductor disposed transverse to the longitudinal direction of the fiber. The conductors are preferably deposited on the optical fibers by mask deposition, preferably utilizing masks adapted for contemporaneously depositing a metal conductor across a plurality of fibers. Electronic circuits having patterned conductors corresponding to the transverse conductors may be connected thereto by solder, conductive adhesive and the like.

Electrical interconnection of light-emitting fibers, and method therefor

Provided is a method of fabricating a solid support with two or more separated regions of a first solid layer of a non-volatile compound deposited thereon, the non-volatile compound required to maintain a chemical proces conducted in a first solution. The method comprises (1) creating an electromagnetic force for attracting charged, solid particles to a surface of the solid support, (2) contacting the surface with the charged particles of non-volatile compound, and depositing the charged particles in an amount effective to provide the non-volatile compound in an amount effective maintain the chemical process.

Method of fabricating a support with dry deposited compounds thereon

A substrate is roboticaly picked up at a station and transported to a measuring station to measure the distance to a reference. The substrate is aligned to a robot before measurement. The measured substrate is then transported to a pharmaceutical or diagnostic powder/grain deposition station where the powder/grains are controllably deposited on the substrate to predetermined thicknesses over a plurality of powder/grain collection zones. The deposited powder/grains are then measured to determine the thickness and area covered by the deposited powder/grains at each collection zone. The substrate is then transported to a lamination station and each collection zone of powder/grains is welded to a cover substrate. The system remembers which collection zones are out of specification so that they can be later selectively discarded.

A display as for images and/or information comprises a plurality of light-emitting fibers disposed in side-by-side arrangement to define a viewing surface. Each light-emitting fiber includes a plurality of light-emitting elements disposed along its length, each having two electrodes between which are applied electrical signals to cause the light-emitting element to emit light to display a pixel or sub-pixel of the image and/or information. The light-emitting fiber includes an electrical conductor disposed along its length to serve as a first electrode, a layer of light-emissive material disposed thereon, and a plurality of electrical contacts disposed on the light-emissive material to serve as the second electrodes of the light-emitting elements. Preferably, the conductors, light-emissive layer and plurality of electrical contacts are formed in a continuous process wherein a transparent fiber passes through a plurality of processing chambers for receiving the electrical conductor, the light-emissive layer and the plurality of electrical contacts thereon.

A display as for images and/or information comprises a plurality of linearly addressed light-emitting fibers disposed in side-by-side arrangement to define a viewing surface. Each light-emitting fiber includes a plurality of light-emitting elements disposed along its length which is linearly addressed by signals provided by a drive circuit at one end thereof. Linear addressing signals are either optical signals or electrical signals, and may be frequency modulated, digitally encoded or analog encoded. A detector associated with each pixel detects the linear addressing signal and decodes same to activate and deactivate organic or inorganic light-emitting material elements. Thus, the light-emitting elements emit light to display a pixel or sub-pixel of the image and/or information. The light-emitting fiber may include a transparent fiber as substrate for propagating the optical signals therethrough and may include electrical conductors disposed along its length for propagating the electrical signals.

Linearly-addressed light-emitting fiber, and flat panel display employing same

A display as for images and/or information comprises a plurality of light-emitting fibers disposed in side-by-side arrangement to define a viewing surface. Each light-emitting fiber includes a plurality of light-emitting elements disposed along its length, each having two electrodes between which are applied electrical signals to cause the light-emitting element to emit light to display a pixel or sub-pixel of the image and/or information. The light-emitting fiber includes an electrical conductor disposed along its length to serve as a first electrode, a layer of light-emissive material disposed thereon, and a plurality of electrical contacts disposed on the light-emissive material to serve as the second electrodes of the light-emitting elements, and are formed in a continuous process wherein a transparent fiber passes through a plurality of processing chambers for receiving the electrical conductor, the light-emissive layer and the plurality of electrical contacts thereon. The method of making a light-emitting fiber comprises providing a length of a fiber, forming a first electrode along the fiber, depositing a light-emitting material along the fiber in electrical contact with the first electrode, and forming a plurality of second electrodes along the fiber in electrical contact with the light-emitting material.

Method of making a light-emitting fiber

A plasma display device having three-electrode pixels. Each pixel may be set either in a write state or in a sustain state by a pair of select electrodes. In the write state the pixel may be set either ON or OFF. A pixel is put in a write state when the AC signals applied to the select electrodes are in phase. Once the signals applied to the select electrodes are in phase, the pixel may be set ON or OFF depending on the phase of the signal applied to a data electrode. In the sustain state the pixel remains either ON or OFF regardless of the signal applied to the data electrode. A pixel is put in a sustain state when out-of-phase signals are applied to the pair of select electrodes. The pixels in the display are arranged in rows and columns. Each pixel column has a single data electrode, and each pixel row has a pair of select electrodes associated with it. Pixels in unselected rows may be illuminated concurrently with the writing into pixels in selected rows. In order to avoid crosstalk and high electric fields generated between a select electrode of one pixel and a select electrode of an adjacent pixel, adjacent pixel rows may share a select electrode.

Provided is a solid support having dry deposited thereon a first solid layer comprising at least a first compound, the compound for use in a chemical process conducted in a first solution. The invention allows stable forms where the first compound is not stable either (i) for storage in the first solution or (ii) in solution with one or more other compounds of the first layer. Also provided is a tray or kit of wells adapted for conducting a chemical process, each well having a deposited thereon a first solid layer comprising one or more compounds for supporting a chemical process conducted in a first solution, wherein addition of the first liquid to each of the wells dissolves said one or more compounds.
