A downhole multi-modality inspection system includes a first imaging device operable to generate first imaging data and a second imaging device operable to generate second imaging data. The first imaging device includes a first source operable to emit energy of a first modality, and a first detector operable to detect returning energy induced by the emitted energy of the first modality. The second imaging device includes a second source operable to emit energy of a second modality, and a second detector operable to detect returning energy induced by the emitted energy of the second modality. The system further includes a processor configured to receive the first imaging data and the second imaging data, and integrate the first imaging data with the second imaging data into an enhanced data stream. The processor correlates the first imaging data and the second imaging data to provide enhanced data for detecting potential wellbore anomalies.

Data fusion enhanced multi-modality wellbore integrity inspection system

The present disclosure relates to the use of X-ray detector cassettes that may be abutted or overlapped to form a detector assembly suitable for imaging objects that are too large to image using a single X-ray detector cassette. Such a detector assembly may be customized in terms of the size and/or shape of the field-of-view (FOV). In certain embodiments the radiation-sensitive electronics (e.g., readout electronics) are positioned to the side of the X-ray detecting components (e.g., scintillator, TFT array, and so forth), allowing the cassette to be thin relative to other detector devices and allowing the electronics to remain outside the X-ray beam path.

Tileable X-ray detector cassettes

A downhole inspection system includes a neutron imaging device operable to generate data for detecting potential wellbore anomalies and an electromagnetic imaging device operable to generate data for detecting potential wellbore eccentricity. The neutron imaging device includes a neutron generator operable to emit neutrons, and a neutron detector fixed relative to the neutron generation unit and operable to detect backscattered neutrons from a surrounding environment. The electromagnetic imaging device includes at least one transmitter for generating electromagnetic pulse, and at least one receiver for detecting returning electromagnetic pulse. Correlation of the neutron imaging data with the electromagnetic imaging data provides additional data regarding the potential wellbore anomalies.

An additive manufacturing system includes at least one imaging device configured to direct electromagnetic radiation towards a build layer of a component positioned within a powder bed of the additive manufacturing system. A wellbore inspection device includes a radiation generation source operable to emit neutrons, and a radiation detector fixed relative to the radiation generation source and operable to detect backscattered neutron radiation from a surrounding environment. The radiation detector includes a plurality of individually addressable detector elements arranged in one or more concentric rings. Respective amounts of backscattered neutron radiation detected by the individually addressable detector elements within a ring is indicative of the azimuthal direction of the detected backscattered neutron radiation, and the respective amount of backscattered neutron radiation detected by the individually addressable detector elements of two or more concentric rings is indicative of an energy level of the backscattered neutron radiation. The inspection device determines whether a potential anomaly is present in or around the wellbore, based at least in part on the respective amounts of backscattered radiation detected by the individually addressable detector elements.

Wellbore detector with azimuthal and spectral energy resolution

An apparatus for inspecting integrity of a multi-barrier wellbore is described. The apparatus includes at least one source to generate radiation to impinge a target volume of the wellbore. The apparatus includes a source collimator having a plurality of alternating blocking channels and passing channels to direct radiation to impinge the target volume, such that the radiation directed from each passing channel forms a plurality of field of views extending radially into the target volume. The apparatus further includes at least one detector to receive backscatter rays arising from each respective field of view from the plurality of field of views and to generate an image representative of an inspected portion of the wellbore. The apparatus is useful for inspecting very small volumes in the multiple barriers of the wellbore and determine the integrity of the wellbore based on the different densities in the image of the inspected portion.

Apparatus and method for inspecting integrity of a multi-barrier wellbore

A detector assembly includes scintillators configured to generate a light signal in response to an impinging backscatter signal, where the scintillators are arranged in a first pattern, a plurality of first detectors, where each first detector is coupled to a scintillator and configured to receive a first portion of a light signal from that scintillator, and where the first detectors are arranged in a second pattern aligned with the first pattern, a plurality of second detectors, where each second detector is disposed adjacent a scintillator and configured to receive a second portion of the light signal from that scintillator, and where the plurality of second detectors is arranged in a third pattern, and a scintillator collimator including a plurality of openings and configured to selectively receive the backscatter signal, where the detector assembly is configured to provide depth resolution, azimuthal resolution, a defect type, a defect size, or combinations thereof.

System and method for monitoring integrity of a wellbore

A well integrity inspection system configured to inspect a well structure including multiple concentric layers. The well integrity inspection system includes an inspection probe positioned in the well structure. The inspection probe includes a plurality of excitation assemblies for transmitting a plurality of radiation emissions into the well structure. The plurality of excitation assemblies includes at least a neutron excitation assembly and an X-ray excitation assembly. The inspection probe also includes a plurality of detection assemblies configured to receive a plurality of backscatter radiation returns from the well structure. The plurality of detection assemblies includes at least a neutron detection assembly and an X-ray detection assembly. The well integrity inspection system further including a processor operatively coupled to the inspection probe. The processor is configured to determine a well integrity parameter of the well structure based on at least one of the plurality of backscatter radiation returns.

In various embodiments, a multi-layer X-ray source target is provided having two or more layers of target material at different depths and different thicknesses. In one such embodiment the X-ray generating layers increase in thickness in relationship to their depth relative to the electron beam facing surface of the source target, such that X-ray generating layer further from this surface are thick than X-ray generating layers closer to the electron beam facing surface.

A system for inspecting nuclear fuel pellets is provided. The inspection system is configured to use X-ray radiation at one or more energies to probe nuclear fuel pellets disposed within a nuclear fuel rod for nuclear fuel pellet defects. In some implementations of the inspection system, a nuclear fuel rod manufacturing facility may be able to integrate the inspection system for fully or partially automated inspection of all fuel rods produced within the facility.

An imaging technique is provided for acquiring scatter free images of an object. The technique includes acquiring a plurality of projection images of the object using a source and a detector oriented at a plurality of projection angles relative to the object, and generating a plurality of scatter free projection images by correcting the plurality of projection images based on respective ones of a plurality of stored scatter images. The scatter images are generated and stored for each of the projection angles by positioning a scatter rejection plate between the object and the detector. The technique further includes reconstructing a three-dimensional image of the object based on the scatter free projection images.

The present invention is a ski helmet that combines a visor and face shield. Adapted to the ski helmet is a suitably thick strip of resilient foam material positioned across the exterior front-facing surface of the helmet protecting the forehead area of the person wearing the helmet. The face shield can be rotated to various positions which will change the contact area of the face shield and foam strip and thus the amount of air flow between the face shield and user's face. When the face shield is in maximum contact with the foam strip, air flow is minimized.

A system and method for ascertaining the identity of an object within an enclosed article. The system includes an acquisition subsystem utilizing a stationary radiation source and detector, a reconstruction subsystem, a computer-aided detection (CAD) subsystem, and a 2D/3D visualization subsystem. The detector may be an energy discriminating detector. The acquisition subsystem communicates view data to the reconstruction subsystem, which reconstructs it into image data and communicates it to the CAD subsystem. The CAD subsystem analyzes the image data to ascertain whether it contains any area of interest. Any such area of interest data is sent to the reconstruction subsystem for further reconstruction, using more rigorous algorithms and further analyzed by the CAD subsystem. Other information, such as risk variables or trace chemical detection information may be communicated to the CAD subsystem to be included in its analysis.

System and method for detecting an object

Various configurations for scatter reduction and control are provided for CT imaging. These configurations include an imaging system having a stationary detector extending generally around a portion of an imaging volume and a distributed X-ray source placed proximal to the stationary detector for radiating an X-ray beam toward the stationary detector. A scatter control system is further provided that is configured to adaptively operate in cooperation with the stationary detector and the distributed X-ray source to focally align collimator septa contained therein to the X-ray beam at a given focal point and to provide X-ray beam scatter control.
