This document discusses, among other things, apparatus and methods for restarting an electronic device configured to receive power from a main power supply and an auxiliary power supply. The electronic device includes a reset circuit a reset circuit configured to provide a first signal indicative of an electronic device failure, and an isolation circuit configured to isolate the main power supply from the auxiliary power supply in response to the first signal so that power is supplied to the reset circuit by the auxiliary power supply. The reset circuit can be configured to generate a reset signal for restarting the electronic device with the power supplied by the auxiliary power supply.

Apparatus and method for restarting an electronic device

A port controller includes an advertise block configured to determine a cable assembly coupled to the port controller is not compliant with a standard used by the port controller, a comparator configured to determine a current drawn from a power converter coupled to the cable assembly exceeds a capability of the power converter based on comparing a bus voltage to a threshold voltage, and a protection block configured to, in response to determining the current drawn from the power converter exceeds the capability of the power converter, cause the current drawn from the power converter to be reduced.

Fuse driver circuits, fuse driver testing circuitry, and methods for testing the fuse driver circuits using the testing circuitry are described. In some embodiments, the fuse driver circuit can be made using a fuse, a NMOS transistor, and a PMOS transistor. The drain of the NMOS transistor can be connected to the negative end of the fuse. The source of the NMOS transistor can be connected to ground. The drain of the PMOS transistor can be connected to a positive end of the fuse. The NMOS and PMOS transistors provide enhanced robustness to the fuse driver circuit in both undervoltage and overvoltage conditions. Other embodiments are also described.

Fuse driver circuits

In one general aspect, an apparatus can include an input terminal, an output terminal and a ground terminal. The apparatus can also include an overcurrent protection device coupled between the input terminal and the output terminal. The apparatus can further include a thermal shunt device coupled between the output terminal and the ground terminal, the thermal shunt device being configured to, at a threshold temperature, operate in a thermally-induced low-impedance state.

Input power protection

In one general aspect, an apparatus can include a semiconductor substrate, and a first conductive fuse bus having a triangular-shaped portion with a bottom surface aligned along a plane substantially parallel to a surface of the semiconductor substrate. The apparatus can include a second conductive fuse bus having a bottom surface aligned along the plane, and a plurality of fuse links coupled between the triangular-shaped portion of the first conductive fuse bus and the second conductive fuse bus.

Unbalanced parallel circuit protection fuse device

Disclosed in this specification is a buck converter package with stacked dice and a process for forming a buck converter. The package includes a die attach pad with a low side die mounted on one surface and a high side die mounted on the opposing surface. The die attach pad is conductive, such that the drain of the low side die is connected to the source of the high side die through the pad. A controller die controls the gates of the high and low side dies. A plurality of leads extends outside of the package to permit electrical connections to the inside of the package. The high side drain is exposed to one of the surfaces of the package.
