Device and method for implantation of hair grafts into the scalp of a patient. In the device, a cross-sectional shape of a rod riding in an implantation needle is configured with respect to the needle to communicate a vacuum in a chamber anterior to the needle forward to an interior of the needle, thereby facilitating loading of the hair graft into the device by direct-to-needle aspiration of the hair graft.

Method and apparatus for automated staging of hair grafts using a camera for capturing one or more images of a staging area constructed for holding the hair grafts, and a controllable robotic arm having an aspiration tip mounted at a tool end thereof. An image captured by the camera is processed to identify a position of a hair graft in the image, and subsequent to distinguishing between a base end and a hair end of the hair graft in the image, an aspiration point is defined based at least in part on position of either or both of the base end and the hair end. The robotic arm is controlled to move the aspiration tip to the aspiration point, for aspiration of the hair graft into the aspiration tip. The aspirated graft may then be dispensed to a holding cartridge, sorted by number of hair grafts, or may be aspirated directly from the aspiration tip to a loading position in a hair implantation device, or to a loading position in a helper device for subsequent loading of the hair graft to a hair implantation device.

A device and system for implanting a hair graft, the device having an elongated body; an intermediate reservoir operably coupled to an anterior end of the elongated body and extending axially therefrom; a skin abutment piece movably coupled to an anterior end of the intermediate reservoir; and a beveled hollow needle operably coupled to an anterior end of the skin abutment piece. The system also includes a source of pressure operably coupled to the device; a hair graft container operably coupled to the device; a vacuum source operably coupled to the device; a differential pressure detector operably coupled to the device; and a controller in communication with the source of pressure, the hair graft container, the vacuum source, and the differential pressure detector.

A surgical instrument and method for implantation of follicular units into the scalp of a patient, including a generally cylindrical handle; a cannula disposed at one end of the cylindrical handle, the cannula having an open port constructed to load and to hold a follicular unit, and the cannula further having a tip end constructed for insertion into an implantation incision at an implantation site; a flap for at least partially closing the open port; a movable lever hinged at one end thereof relative to the cylindrical handle and connected at another end thereof to the flap; and a plunger extending through the cannula and constructed to displace a loaded follicular unit out from the cannula into the implantation incision.

The extraction of a hair graft from a harvesting area of a scalp employs a hollow punch fitted with an auxiliary instrumentation for separating a target graft from collagen fibrils which resist extraction. A hair transplant apparatus and a method for placing hair grafts into pre-made wounds capture a hair graft into a hair graft chamber readily aligned for implantation into the human scalp. The hair graft can be placed into the hair graft chamber manually or mechanically (e.g., by vacuum). A hair transplant apparatus includes a housing and a sliding rod within the housing. When the sliding rod is away from an open distal end of the housing in a first position, a hair graft can be placed into the spacing between an end of the rod and the open distal end of the housing. In a second position, the rod is advanced so the end of the rod becomes substantially flush with the distal end of the housing, thereby pushing the hair graft out of the housing and into the pre-made wound. Advantageously, the housing is aligned with the direction of the pre-made wound allowing the hair graft to slide easily into the pre-made wound without damage. Extraneous forces are eliminated by the alignment of the housing to the wound, thus creating a linear path for the hair graft to move without obstruction to finally settle in the scalp wound.

Method and apparatus for transplanting a hair graft

Apparatus and method employing gel electrophoresis and optical imaging techniques to measure the amount of biomaterial that attaches to specified locations on a detector slide and to determine the molecular weight of the molecules at those locations.

Image data is acquired, processed, and/or displayed in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure to display, monitor, and/or demonstrate the progress of an experiment substantially in real-time and with high sensitivity. In one embodiment, at least one time-resolved value of spatially distributed polarization change data is provided and displayed. Advantageously, real-time processing and display of data is provided such that discussion and collaboration about the experiment may occur, time-resolved data is not lost, and resources are not wasted.
