A bone plate incorporating a length adjusting elongate hole formed in a shaft portion thereof, along with corresponding methods of use. In one embodiment, the length adjusting elongate hole is configured to receive one or more bone fixation devices (e.g., bone screws). In use, the bone fixation device positioned within the length adjusting elongate hole may be partially loosened, without removal, to enable the patient's bone to be adjusted (e.g., loosening the bone fixation device within the length adjusting elongate hole allows the surgeon to adjust the position of the patient's bone, and hence the bone fixation device coupled thereto, relative to the bone plate). Once properly adjusted, the bone fixation device positioned within the length adjusting elongate hole may be retightened. In various embodiments, the length adjusting elongate hole is configured so that, in use, each of the plurality of bone fixation openings remains available to a surgeon.

A targeting system is disclosed. In use, the targeting system is configured to target (e.g., aim, locate, etc.) a fastener opening in a bone plate, more particularly, a variable angled fastener opening formed in a periphery of a periprosthetic bone plate. In one embodiment, the targeting system includes an alignment guide including a plurality of combo-slots for targeting a plurality of openings formed in the periprosthetic bone plate. In addition, the targeting system includes a plug configured to be positioned within the combo-slots formed in the alignment guide. In use, positioning the plug into the combo-slot formed in the alignment guide transforms the combo-slot into a substantially circular hole or opening with a predefined trajectory aligned with one of the variable angled openings formed in the periphery of the periprosthetic bone plate thereby defining a trajectory from the alignment guide to the variable angled opening.

Targeting system for a periprosthetic bone plate

Certain embodiments of the invention provide plates for treating periarticular fractures or other non-full body weight bearing applications that combine polyaxial fixation with a low profile and enhanced contouring that more closely conforms to bone. Such plates can be designed to achieve buttressing effect and/or to be used in a reinforcement mode. Other features can be combined with these. Such plates can be created for use on bone sites such as on a tibia, fibula, metatarsal, calcaneous, other foot bone, humerus, radius, ulna, spinal, maxillofacial, as well as sites on other bones.

Systems and methods for using polyaxial plates

Disclosed herein is a tool for cutting or crimping a tensioned cable in a medical procedure. The tool comprises a cable forming assembly that is coupled with an inner shaft. The cable forming assembly comprises a cable former. The tool additionally comprises a central channel, which extends through the inner shaft, an outer tube within which the inner shaft is positioned, and the cable forming assembly along an entire length of each one of the inner shaft, the outer tube, and the cable forming assembly. The central channel is configured to receive and support the tensioned cable in-line with the tool. The cable former is actuatable to cut or crimp the tensioned cable when the tensioned cable passes through the central channel. Translational movement of the outer tube along the inner shaft in an engagement direction actuates the cable former to cut or crimp the tensioned cable.

Tool for cutting or crimping cable in a medical procedure

Disclosed herein is a cannulated tool through which a cable is passable. The cannulated tool comprises a body. The cannulated tool also comprises a screw driving feature, rotatable relative to the body. The cannulated tool further comprises an anti-rotation feature, rotatable relative to the screw driving feature. The cannulated tool additionally comprises a cable tensioning feature, configured to tension the cable when passed through the cannulated tool.

Apparatus, system, and method for crimping a cable for bone fixation

A system for fixating soft-tissue is described herein. The system includes a soft-tissue fixation device comprising a cable-retention feature. Additionally, the system includes a cable coupleable to the cable-retention feature of the soft-tissue fixation device. The cable is configured to be tensioned to a measurable and adjustable tension.

Disclosed herein is a washer assembly for use with a bone. The washer assembly comprises a first portion, comprising a first washer, a first stem non-movably fixed to and extending from the first washer, and a first internal channel defined by the first washer and the first stem. The washer additionally includes a second portion, comprising a second washer, a second stem non-movably fixed to and extending from the second washer, and a second internal channel defined by the second washer and the second stem. The first portion is movable relative to the second portion, to adjust a distance between the first washer and the second washer, and the first internal channel of the first washer is retained in coaxial alignment with the second internal channel of the second washer as the first portion moves relative to the second portion.

An apparatus for anchoring cable to bone includes an anchor configured to be anchored in a bone and a cable fixed to the anchor. The cable is configured to be tensioned to a measurable and adjustable tension to cause a measurable and adjustable compression of the bone by the cable. The apparatus may include a cable housing having a proximal portion, a distal portion, and a passage. The distal portion is detachably and co-rotatably engageable with the anchor and the passage is open to and extends from a distal end of the distal portion. The apparatus also includes a cable having a fixed-end portion and a free-end portion. The fixed-end portion of the cable is fixed to the anchor and the free-end portion of the cable is non-fixedly positionable in the passage of the cable housing.

An apparatus for crimping a cable, the apparatus including a crimp body, an elongate shaft, a neck coupling and interposed between the crimp body and the elongate shaft, and a central passage extending through the crimp body, neck, and elongate shaft. A first method, for reducing and stabilizing at least one of a fracture in, a dislocation of, and a subluxation of at least one bone, includes forming a hole in the at least one bone. The first method also includes anchoring a first portion of a cable relative to the at least one bone and positioning a second portion of the cable in the hole in the at least one bone. With the second portion of the cable positioned in the hole in the at least one bone, the method includes both tensioning the cable to a measurable and adjustable tension and, with the cable tensioned to the measurable tension, anchoring a third portion of the cable relative to the at least one bone.

System and method for reducing and stabilizing fractures in bone, subluxations, or dislocations

An apparatus for passing a cable through a pass-through hole in a bone that includes a hole-forming tool and a cable. The hole-forming tool has a shank, a cutting portion, and a first connection feature. The cutting portion is interposed between the shank and the first connection feature and the shank is detachably coupleable to a driving tool. The cable has a first-end portion that has a second connection feature. The cable is detachably coupleable to the hole-forming tool via the first connection feature of the hole-forming tool and the second connection feature of the first-end portion of the cable.
