A split shaft includes a proximal shaft section having a first proximal shaft end and a second proximal shaft end. The first proximal shaft end is configured to couple to the first machine arrangement. The split shaft further includes a distal shaft section having a first distal shaft end and a second distal shaft end. The first distal shaft end is configured to couple to the second machine arrangement. The second distal shaft end is configured to engage with the second proximal shaft end to convey the drive power from the first machine arrangement to the second machine arrangement. The second proximal shaft end includes a first indicator, and the second distal shaft end includes a second indicator. Alignment of the first indicator and the second indicator conveys timing for the drive power.

An apparatus has a rotatable base having a plurality of guide features with opposed sides and supports. Each of the supports are slidably disposed in one of the plurality of guide features. The supports and the base member have spacer engagement surfaces which are configured to face one another in pairs and to have spacers clamped between each of the pairs. The spacers are so dimensioned as to locate each of the supports in a predetermined position with respect to an axis of rotation of the rotatable base member. A gear train on cut drive side is driven by a variable speed motor. Motor speed can be set for a given can diameter.

The present invention includes a trim station for trimming the flange of a container, an apparatus for trimming the flange of a container and a method of trimming the flange of a container. The trim station includes a rotating primary knife and a secondary knife mounted on a movable member, wherein the secondary knife is moved into a cutting position by advancing the movable member in a direction parallel to the axial direction of the container. The present invention also includes a spindle assembly and a container by process of trimming the flange of the container.

The present invention includes a knockout ram assembly for necking a container comprising an anti-rotation device adapted to prevent a piston/pilot assembly from rotating while bolting or unbolting the pilot. The present invention also includes a method of replacing a knockout ram assembly from a container necking apparatus comprising unbolting from the container necking apparatus a first knockout ram assembly having an anti-rotation device adapted to substantially prevent the piston/pilot assembly from rotating, removing the first knockout ram assembly from the container necking apparatus, and bolting to the container necking apparatus a second knockout ram assembly having an anti-rotation device adapted to substantially prevent the piston/pilot assembly from rotating.

An improvement in devices for the thermostatic control of engine coolant comprises a radiator hose with an internally mounted thermostatic valve. In one embodiment of the improved device, a flexible hose has a radially inwardly projecting annular flange on which the radially outwardly projecting annular flange of a conventional thermostatic valve may seat. In another embodiment, the annular flange of a thermostatic valve is modified to permit it to be clamped onto a coil of a helical spring held coaxially within a flexible radiator hose. The improved thermostatic coolant control devices eliminate the requirement for gaskets, gasket cement, and unbolting and bolting metal parts together heretofore, required for the replacement of thermostats.

An inexpensive and disposable stabilizing support for surgical instruments is configured for use with a speculum, or the like. The support includes a spring-mounted bridge therein having a plurality of grooves in which a surgical instrument rests during microsurgery on a patient's ear, nose, or throat.

An improvement in devices for the thermostatic control of engine coolent comprises a radiator hose with an internally mounted thermostatic valve. An inexpensive and disposable surgical unit designed preferably for use during ear surgery. The unit includes an ear speculum with a coiled-spring located therein to steady a surgical instrument which extends through the coils of the coiled-spring to thereby avoid damage to the ear by uncontrolled movements of the surgeon.

A gravity positioned detent is moved into obstructing relation to the end of a slidable latch member when the luggage case is wrong-side-up, preventing operation of the latch mechanism and opening of the case. When oriented right-side-up, the detent is moved out of the way, allowing full operation of the latch mechanism and opening of the case.
