A float operated valve for controlling the rate of flow of water from a pipe carrying water under pressure, to a vessel, comprises a pipe having an end opening of selected diameter and a flange of larger diameter surrounding the pipe. A flexible diaphragm is attached over the flange having a central closure pad adapted to cut off water flow when pressed against the pipe. A small orifice is drilled through the diaphragm so that when the flow is shut off, water can still flow through the orifice to the second side of the diaphragm. A second short pipe having a similar flange is bolted against the diaphragm to the first flange, to provide a water tight seal. There is a second small orifice in the second end of the second pipe, and a float mechanism is provided with a closure tip to close the second orifice when the water level is at a selected value. The closure tip varies the size of the second orifice so that the orifice is responsive to the float. Depending on the ratio of areas of the first and second orifices, water pressure on the second side of the diaphragm prevents flow. When the second orifice reaches a selected ares the diaphragm no longer seals the first pipe and a high flow of water is provided. A removable, resilient insert in the first pipe seats the diaphragm. The resilient insert minimizes valve maintenance while prolonging component service life. An anti-syphon relief prevents reverse fluid flow during vacuum or negative pressure conditions. The relief causes air to enter the valve to break the suction created by the vacuum or negative pressure condition while preventing water loss during normal operations.

Low-high flow rate valve

Apparatus for automatically opening an orifice to allow flow when ambient temperature drops below a predetermined level, such as the freezing point of water. The apparatus is for connection to a liquid line that carries liquid at a selected pressure for producing a selected low flow rate of liquid from the liquid line when the ambient temperature drops below a selected temperature. The apparatus comprises an orifice in the end of the liquid line of selected small diameter, a closed chamber means having an expansible portion filled with a selected condensible gas, for which the vapor pressure varies with temperature in a known manner. The apparatus further comprises a valve assembly selectively positioned adjacent the orifice and at a specific distance from the expansible portion of the closed chamber. The closure means is selectively positioned by means of spacers positioned adjacent the valve assembly. A means connecting the expansible portion of the chamber to a closure means in the valve assembly is provided to shut off the flow of liquid by sealing an orifice when the temperature is above a selected value, and to open the orifice to allow a small trickle flow of liquid whenever the ambient temperature is less than a selected value, such as the freezing point of water.

Vacuum frame apparatus is provided for maintaining precise registration between and an image forming sheet to be reproduced and a light sensitive sheet adapted for controlled exposure to light. The apparatus includes a light transmitting glass panel having a planar surface for contact with the image sheet and a vacuum blanket assembly including a blanket of thin, flexible sheet material adapted to contact the light sensitive sheet and bias the sheets toward the planar surface of the glass panel while maintained in precise registration. The vacuum blanket assembly includes a peripheral edge seal around the blanket for sealing engagement with the planar face of the glass panel and means for evacuating the space inside the peripheral edge bead between the planar face of the panel and the blanket of the vacuum blanket. A novel platen system is provided for moving the vacuum blanket and sheets thereon bodily toward the glass panel in a direction perpendicular thereto to engage the peripheral edge bead in a floating manner whereby the sealing pressure is equal along the entire length thereof. Thereafter a vacuum can be rapidly drawn between the sheets, the vacuum blanket and the planar surface of the glass panel.

Vacuum blanket lifting apparatus

A vacuum blanket apparatus for maintaining precise registration between an image forming sheet and a light sensitive sheet when subjected to controlled exposure to light passing through a glass panel includes a vacuum blanket having an upper cover of flexible sheet material adapted to contact the light sensitive sheet for biasing the same and said image sheet toward a planar face of the glass panel when the panel is locked in position parallel to the vacuum blanket. The blanket cover is formed with at least one elongated slot for receiving one or more registration pins for registering the image forming and light sensitive sheets. At least one deformable resilient pressure element in the slot is deformable to bias the sheets toward the glass panel.

Apparatus for connection to an outdoor water line carrying water at a selected pressure, for producing a selected low flow rate of water from the water line when the outdoor temperature drops below a selected temperature, which comprises an orifice in the end of the water line of selected small diameter, a closed chamber means having an expansible portion, filled with a selected condensible gas, for which the vapor pressure varies with temperature in a known manner, and closure means positioned adjacent the orifice and means connecting the expansible portion of the chamber to the closure means to shut off the flow of water when the temperature is above a selected value, and to open the orifice to a small trickle flow of water, whenever the temperature outdoors is less than a selected value, such as the freezing point of water.

A flexible diaphragm is attached over the flange having a central closure pad adapted to cut off water flow when pressed against the pipe. A small orifice is drilled through the diaphragm so that when the flow is shut off, water can still flow through the orifice to the second side of the diaphragm. A second short pipe having a similar flange is bolted against the diaphragm to the first flange, to provide a water tight seal. There is a second small orifice in the second end of the second pipe, and a float mechanism is provided with a closure tip to close the second orifice when the water level is at a selected value. The closure tip provided can vary the size of the second orifice so that as soon as it is opened, the orifice size is a minimum. As the water level drops, the tip moves farther away and the orifice is enlarged. Depending on the ratio of areas of the first and second orifices, water pressure on the second side of the diaphragm prevents flow. When the second orifice reaches a selected area the diaphragm is no longer pressed against the first pipe, and a high flow of water is provided.

An energy saver control system for prevention of water freezing in an outdoor tank, such as a stock tank, which involves a conventional type of water level control valve to maintain a selected level of water in the tank, and an electrical switch which is controlled by the pressure which is in the water line leading to the water level control valve. Means are provided to control the rate of water flow into the tank to a selected low value, sufficient for prevention of freezing of the surface of the water in the tank. When water is flowing into the tank the electrical heater is cut off. The electrical switch is controlled by the pressure in the water line leading to the water level control means.
