Systems and methods of detecting wireless channel status from acoustic discrimination of spectral content are described. In one aspect, a wireless system includes a spectrum analyzer, a detector, and a controller. The spectrum analyzer is operable to acoustically discriminate spectral content of an input electrical signal in multiple discrete frequency channels. The detector is operable to determine respective statuses of the frequency channels from the acoustically discriminated spectral content. The controller is operable to select one of the frequency channels based on the determined statuses of the frequency channels.

Multiple motion sensor devices are included in an imaging apparatus. One or more of the motion sensor devices captures images and at least a portion of the sensor images are then processed to determine one or more motion vectors for the processed sensor images. At least one motion vector representing an amount of motion of the imager during image capture is generated when a predetermined portion of the motion vectors match.

Methods, systems and computer readable media for computing small particle size distributions of particles in a process stream comprising a sample dilute colloid. A reference matrix of pre-computed reference vectors is provided. Each reference vector represents a discrete particle size or particle size range of a particle size distribution of particles contained in a dilute colloid. Each reference vector represents a reference extinction spectrum over a predetermined wavelength range. A measurement vector representing a measured extinction spectrum of the sample particles in the sample colloid is provided, wherein the measured extinction spectrum has been spectrophotometrically measured over the wavelength range. The particle size distribution and particle concentrations of the particles in the sample colloid are determined using the reference matrix, the measurement vector and linear equations.

Methods and systems for computing a particle size distribution of small particles in a process

A motion sensor configured to control compensation for movement of an imaging device receiving light representative of a selected scene on an image plane. The motion sensor includes and array of photoelements and a controller. The array of photoelements is configured to acquire successive images of features of an environment within a field of view of the motion sensor; including a first image of features and a second image of features acquired at a time interval after the first image, the first and second images including common features. The controller is configured to receive and correlate the first and second images to detect movement of the imaging device about a first and a second axis during the time interval by detecting differences in locations of the common features relative to the array of photoelements, and to provide first and second compensation signals based on the correlation to control opto-mechanical adjustments to counter detected movement of the imaging device about the first and second axes so as to maintain a substantially fixed relationship between the selected scene and the imaging plane.

Methods, systems and computer readable media for computing small particle size distributions. A reference matrix of pre-computed reference vectors is provided, with each reference vector representing a discrete particle size or particle size range of a particle size distribution of particles contained in a dilute colloid. A measurement vector of measured extinction values of a sample dilute colloid is provided, wherein the measured extinction values have been measured by spectrophotometric measurement at the discrete wavelengths. Size distribution and concentrations of particles in the sample dilute colloid are determined using linear equations, the reference matrix and the reference vector.

Methods and systems for computing a size distribution of small particles

An imaging device having a lens focusing light from a selected scene within an optical footprint, and a substrate including a primary array and at least one navigation array which are positioned within the optical footprint. The primary array acquires a desired image of a portion of the selected scene during an integration period and the at least one navigation array acquires a series of images during the integration period, including a first and a second image having common features from the selected scene. A correlator determines location differences of the common features of the first and second images relative to the at least one navigation array and provides a displacement signal indicative of imaging device translation in two planar dimensions during an interval between the first and second images based on the location differences.

Vehicle-based lidar systems and methods are disclosed using multiple lasers to provide more compact and cost-effective lidar functionality. Each laser in an array of lasers can be sequentially activated so that a corresponding optical element mounted with respect to the array of lasers produces respective interrogation beams in substantially different directions. Light from these beams is reflected by objects in a vehicle's environment, and detected so as to provide information about the objects to vehicle operators and/or passengers.

The system comprises a first beatable signal source, a second beatable signal source, a phase reference signal source and a receiver. The first beatable signal source and the second beatable signal source are located at the source location; the receiver is located at the receiver location. The phase reference signal source is operable to generate a phase reference signal. The first beatable signal source is operable to transmit a first beatable signal. The second beatable signal source is spatially offset from the first beatable signal source in a reference direction, and is operable to transmit a second beatable signal differing in frequency from the first beatable signal by a frequency difference. The first beatable signal and the second beatable signal collectively have a phase relationship with the phase reference signal. The receiver is structured to receive the first beatable signal and the second beatable signal and is operable to determine a direction angle, relative to the reference direction, of the source location from the receiver location. The receiver performs operations that comprise measuring a phase difference between a beat signal and either the phase reference signal or an additional beat signal, and determining the direction angle from the measured phase difference. The beat signal obtained by a process involving summing the first beatable signal and the second beatable signal. The additional beat signal is obtained by a process involving summing the first beatable signal and the phase reference signal. The bearing can be determined from the direction angle.

System and method for determining the bearing of a source location from a receiver location

An apparatus and method for measuring displacement includes a light beam directed to an interferometer core that splits the light beam into first and second component beams. The first component beam is directed to a diffraction grating at approximately a Littrow angle. A diffraction is received by the interferometer core and is combined with the second component beam. The combination of the first and second component beams is measured to determine displacement of the diffraction grating.

A spread-spectrum radio, such as a frequency-hopping spread-spectrum radio or a direct-sequence spread-spectrum radio, includes a transmitter that utilizes microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) based oscillation system to generate a spread-spectrum signal and/or a receiver that utilizes a MEMS-based frequency selection system to receive a spread-spectrum signal. In an embodiment, the MEMS-based oscillation system and the MEMS-based frequency selection system utilize MEMS resonators such as thin film bulk acoustic resonators (FBARs) that are fabricated in high density on a single substrate.

Optical waveguide systems and methods are described. In one aspect, a display system includes a planar acoustic cavity having a fundamental resonant acoustic mode. The acoustic cavity includes an array of optical waveguides and an array of acoustic transducers. Each of the optical waveguides includes a respective cladding surrounding a liquid-filled core. The array of acoustic transducers is operable to generate acoustic waves that propagate in the acoustic cavity across the cores of the optical waveguides.

Wavelength tunable light sources and methods of operating the same are described. In one aspect, a wavelength tunable light source includes a resonant light path, an optical gain medium, an optical grating, a first acousto-optic deflector, and a second acousto-optic deflector. In another aspect, a light source has a resonant light path containing first and second acousto-optic devices for tuning an output light beam over a specified frequency range with an output wavelength profile. The first acousto-optic device is driven with a first signal having a first time-varying frequency profile. The second acousto-optic device is driven with a second signal having a second time-varying frequency profile, wherein the second time-varying frequency profile differs from the first time-varying frequency profile by an amount substantially proportional to a time rate is of change of the output wavelength profile. In this way, the output light beam is tunable over the specified frequency range without observable hopping between longitudinal modes.

The CRCSEL comprises a single-mode optical gain structure and an optically-resonant cavity. The single-mode optical gain structure is structured to generate excitation light having a wavelength and a direction. The optically-resonant cavity is optically coupled to the single-mode optical gain structure and is structured to emit an output light beam in a direction substantially orthogonal to the excitation light. The change in light direction provided by the optically-resonant cavity enables the output light beam to emit from a surface while allowing the excitation light to be generated in a large, high-gain single-mode optical gain structure.
