A flexible, thin wall, multi-layer plastic film pouch having an open end and possessing high strength resistance against being manually torn or stretched. A portion of the pouch, extending to the open end, projects upwardly through a substantially rigid annular flange. The end portion, being mechanically stretched outwardly and downwardly over the annular flange, fits tightly over, around and beneath the flange. The pouch is secured to the flange without further means of attachment. Thus, with the pouch being secured to the flange, the end portion provides the pouch with a substantially rigid brimmed annular opening that facilitates storage, aggressive handling and use of existing filling and closure equipment for filling and closure of the pouch.

A fluid dispenser system being a substantially conventional squeeze bottle within which a collapsible flaccid bag, containing dispensable fluid, is suspended. The bag is spaced from interior surfaces of the bottle and a pressure actuated valve, that facilitates fluid discharge and blocks against back flow entry of air into the bag, closes the bag. The bottle is vented, having a vent hole which is normally open, permitting air entry into the space between the interior surfaces of the bottle and the exterior surfaces of the bag. This vent hole requires obturation incidental with squeezing of the bottle, for fluid dispensing. In that situation air is trapped in the space and compressed, and indirectly exerts outwards pressure against the valve causing the valve to open, and promotes dispensing of the fluid whereby the bag progressively collapses as fluid is expelled.

A collapsible flaccid bag bottle, such as those used for baby bottles, for closed containment of fluid to be aspirated therefrom. Integral with the bottle is a thin passive film, for example, a 2 mil thick additional layer of plastic, that passively manages collapsing of the bottle as fluid is dispensed. The presence of this layer insures against sustainment and proliferation of fluid retention pockets that typically proliferate inside of flaccid bags and block discharge passage of fluid.

A non-venting fluid dispenser system, for example being a collapsible flaccid bag loosely suspended in a sleeve and exposed to atmospheric pressure. A non-venting aspirator and a pressure actuated valve are mounted on the sleeve and close the bag. Operation of the aspirator promotes a low pressure on the outward side of the valve and atmospheric pressure acting against the bag drives fluid product through the valve and into the aspirator for dispensing, whereby the bag progressively collapses as fluid is expelled. The pressure actuated valve blocks against back flow entry of air into the bag.

A push-in-place aerosol dispenser valve configured to advantageously utilizes pressure exerted by pressurizing gas, within a pressurized aerosol container, as a force to sealingly secure the valve in place. The valve has a compliant molded plastic primary structure that integrally includes a nozzle that is resilingly responsive to operational manipulation. Defined within the nozzle is a discharge passageway that terminates at an outlet orifice. The passageway is normally blocked by an obstruent that is moveable by manipulation of the nozzle for unblocking the passageway. And, to accommodate push-in-place mounting the primary structure has an inwardly curved bottom, and a sloping annular retaining ledge that underlies the container opening curl. The bottom, ledge and uniformly distribute force exerted against the bottom, by pressurizing gas, form an equilibrium system that prevents the valve from being dislodged from the container.

A fluid dispenser valve actuator that includes stop and abuttments that accommodate selective positioning of the actuator to an OFF position, preventing opening of the valve, from an ON position facilitating opening of the valve, and vice-versa. The actuator also includes a manipulative latching pawl and a catch that are latchingly engaged to prevent a positional change when the actuator is in the OFF position, except when pawl is manipulated to disengage the catch.

A valve actuator that establishes a secondary valve which may be positioned to prevent unintentional dispensation of fluid product. The actuator includes a dispensing head, for example, mounted on a hollow plunger, rotatably positionable relative thereto and valvingly cooperative therewith to selectively open (facilitate) or close (block) discharge passage of fluid product. The dispensing head preferably includes a depressible latching pawl that is reciprocatively biased to retainingly engage the plunger when the dispensing head is rotated to the close valving position and hold the dispensing head from further positional rotation until the pawl is depressingly disengaged.

A self contained failure tolerant linear drive mechanism that is especially adapted for celestial space applications. First and second motors are concentrically connected to a shaft for axial movement through rotation of either or both of the motors. A locking mechanism having failure tolerant releasing means cooperates with each motor to provide for selective actuation of either motor and predetermined axial movement of the shaft.

A barrier type product container wherein product is contained at atmospheric pressure and separate from a pressurizing gas. And, mounted thereon, for example, a valve actuator that preferably includes an ejector pump type nozzle element that is valvingly positionable to facilitate ventilating inflow of ambient air into the container and dispensation of product. The nozzle element is also positionable to inhibit ventilation of the container and effluence of product, and facilitate use of ambient air to purgingly dispel product residue from discharge passageways of the nozzle.

Self-contained fluid pump aerosol dispenser

A barrier type aerosol dispenser, wherein a product fluid is separately stored at atmospheric pressure within a primary outer container which is essentially a pliable bottle of almost any desirable shape, including that of a thin wall bag. A motivating gas vessel, containing propellant fluid and including a self-cleaning ejector type valve mechanism, is mounted in the fill opening of the primary container and suspended within the product fluid space thereof. The valve mechanism is adapted to initiate outward flow of propellant to motivate discharge flow of product fluid, and a conduit depending from the valve mechanism is adapted to facilitate separate passage flow of the product fluid through the propellant space of the motivating gas vessel.

Soft shell aerosol dispenser unit

This disclosure relates to a manually operated, self-cleaning, aerosol valve that is adapted to maintain separation of fluids while they are within the valve body. The valve is internally separated by a sealing gasket that cooperatively engages a valve seat, and an outwardly projecting discharge passageway stem member. When the valve is in a nonoperating state, engagement of the gasket with respect to the valve seat prevents discharge passage of a first fluid to the stem passageway, and engagement of the gasket with respect to the stem prevents discharge passage of a second fluid. In cofluid dispensing state, first and second ports into the stem discharge passageway are positioned on opposite sides of the gasket. This allows first and second fluids to separately enter the stem passageway, and maintains separation of fluids awaiting discharge. When the valve is operated in positions intermediate the shut and cofluid dispensing state, both first and second fluid ports are positioned to receive first fluid only. Thus, in intermediate operating positions of the valve, first fluid can purgingly pass through both fluid ports and stem passageway to effect self-cleaning, and separation of fluid awaiting discharge can still be maintained.

Self-cleaning, aerosol valve for separate fluids

This disclosure relates to a manually operated, self-cleaning, aerosol valve that has separate control elements for propellant fluid and product fluid. The valve is adapted to maintain internal separation of the fluids. Even when the fluids are codispensed to produce a fine mist, separation of the propellant from the product is maintained until the fluids are beyond control elements. Control elements also maintain internal separation of the fluids when the valve is actuated for purging. This is achieved by keeping the fluid product control element closed while the propellant control element is open. With the control elements so positioned, cleaning fluid can be directed to purge all passageway surfaces that are exposed to external air. This type of valve is particularly suited for dispensing viscous products, such as water-borne paints.

The method of filling and pressurizing an aerosol type container having a fill-opening which comprises introducing a dispensable fluid product into the container for storage therein, projecting an expansible sac having an open end into the container through its fill-opening, overlapping the open end of the sac upon the fill-opening, introducing a pressurized fluid into the sac for storage therein, successively disposing a valve mechanism into the container to overlie the sac open end and closing the sac and fill-opening for sealing the dispensable fluid within the container and for sealing the pressurized fluid within the sac and closing the container; and extending a communicating means from the valve mechanism through the sac establishing communication between the valve mechanism and the fluid product for isolated passage of the fluid product therethrough.

Pressurization method for aerosol dispenser

An aerosol type dispenser, wherein a dispensable fluid product is in storage, under pressure, intermediate wall surfaces of the dispenser and exterior surfaces of a pliable, impervious, expandable sac. Propellant gas, contained in isolation within the confinements of the sac, influence expansible surfaces of the sac to exert an expulsion force to the product. A dispensing valve mechanism, of choice, is utilized for the appropriate dispensing application. Propellant vapors may be co-dispensed with the product to provide an atomized spray or the vapors can be used to remove product residue from the valve mechanism.

In an aerosol type container having a pressure chamber, a product containment sack of an impervious flexible material is centrally retained. The aerosol container is provided with an annular opening defined by an annular lid curl. The lid curl is interlockingly engaged by a collar portion of the sack. A modified valve assembly is sealingly secured within a neck protruding from the sack collar. The sack collar acts as a one-way valve allowing a pressurizing agent to be introduced for the purpose of maintaining a desirable pressure within the container pressure chamber. The invention pertains to pressurizing, sealing and sack retainment of such dispensers.
