An apparatus for treating an ice skate blade is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a rotary brush, an electric motor in signal communication with the rotary brush and operably configured to rotate the bristles about a brush axis, and a receptacle dimensioned to hold the ice skate blade relative to the rotary brush. The rotary brush comprises a hub and a plurality of bristles extending radially from the hub. The apparatus can be utilized to perform a secondary (deburring) treatment to the ice skate blade after a primary (grinding) treatment.

The present invention relates to a honing method and apparatus which provides greater control over the edge shape, as well as reductions in the effort required to hone multiple edges on workpieces. The invention accomplishes these improvements by controlling the speed of the abrasive wheel, as well as the orientation and position of the workpiece prior to and/or while it is in contact with the abrasive brush. This provides for greater control over the hone shape, hone size, and hone distribution along all the cutting edges of the tool.

An elongate support member such as a boring bar. The support member includes a body with an exterior surface and an exterior region adjacent to the exterior surface thereof. The body has an interior region remote from the exterior surface. The interior region is contiguous with the exterior region so as to define an interface therebetween. The interior region is of a first hardness, and a portion of the exterior region adjacent to the exterior surface is of a second hardness wherein the second hardness is greater than the first hardness.

A three dimensional mill capable of plunging, ramping, circle interpolating and other milling processes while providing a finished surface not in need of finish grinding. The milling cutter includes cutting inserts of a modified design including flats separating rounded corners of a two radius design. Each insert also includes a rail that is secured to the milling cutter along a longitudinal surface that is radial to the axis of the milling cutter at any cross sectional plane.

A method of producing a green compact which includes the steps of forming a generally homogeneous powder blend of powder components; consolidating the powder blend into a green body wherein the green body includes a flashing; impinging the green body with a fluid stream so as to dislodge the flashing; and removing the dislodged flashing from the surface of the green body.

Method and apparatus for a powder metallurgical process

A method of, and apparatus for, treating an elongate rotary tool that presents a sharp cutting edge are described. The method includes the steps of emitting under pressure from a nozzle an abrasive fluid stream comprising an abrasive grit entrained in a fluid; and impinging the abrasive fluid stream against the sharp cutting edge of the elongate rotary tool for a preselected time so as to transform the sharp cutting edge into a relatively uniformly honed edge. The apparatus includes a rotatable fixture that releasably holds the elongate rotary tool. A nozzle that emits under pressure an abrasive steam. The nozzle and the elongate rotary tool are relatively moveable so that the abrasive stream impinges the entire length of the sharp cutting edge.

A method of producing a cutting insert which includes the steps of: providing a generally homogeneous powder blend of powder components; forming the powder blend into a green body wherein the green body includes a rake face and a flank face with a cutting edge at the juncture of the rake face and the flank face; honing the cutting edge of the green body; and consolidating the green body with the honed cutting edge so as to form a consolidated body with a honed cutting edge.
