This disclosure describes a lubricant additive. The additive is a friction modifier that includes a molybdenum containing compound and a tertiary amine-containing composition having the following structure: wherein each Rand Ris independently a linear or branched-chain monovalent hydrocarbyl group having one to about twenty carbon atoms, wherein each R, R, and Ris independently a hydrogen, a linear or branched-chain monovalent hydrocarbyl group having one to about twenty carbon atoms, each m is independently from 0 and 4, each p is independently from 0 and 4, for each cyclic moiety m+p is from 2 and 4, and each n is independently from 1 and 6.

Friction modifier system

This disclosure describes an ashless lubricant additive. The additive is a tertiary amine-containing compound having the following structure: where each Rand Ris independently a linear or branched-chain monovalent hydrocarbyl group having two to about twenty carbon atoms, where each R, R, and Ris independently a hydrogen, a linear or branched-chain monovalent hydrocarbyl group having one to about twenty carbon atoms wherein at least one of R, R, and Ris hydrogen, each m is independently from 0 to 2, each p is independently from 0 to 2, for each cylic moiety m+p is from 2 to 4, and each n is independently from 1 to 6.

Ashless additive composition

Disclosed is a dispersant composition, suitable for use in lubricating oils. The dispersant composition is a reaction product of (i) a polyalkenyl succinimide post-treated with a post-treating agent selected from the group consisting of an organic carbonate, an epoxide, a lactone, a hydroxyaliphatic carboxylic acid, and combinations thereof; and (ii) an acylating agent.

Dispersants, method of making, and using same

Disclosed is an oil soluble polyester composition, suitable for use as a dispersant in lubricating oils. The oil soluble polyester composition is prepared by reacting (a) a hydrocarbyl-substituted succinic acylating agent and (b) a di-hydroxyalkyl-substituted tertiary amine compound selected from a N,N-di-hydroxyalkyl-substituted tertiary monoamine and a N,N'-di-hydroxyalkyl-substituted tertiary diamine.

Polyester dispersants, synthesis and use thereof

A polyester composition, suitable for use as a dispersant in lubricating oils, is disclosed. The polyester composition is prepared by reacting (a) an acylating agent selected from an aliphatic-substituted succinic acylating agent, an aromatic polycarboxylic acylating agent, and combinations thereof; and (b) a hydroxyalkyl-substituted tertiary amine compound of the following structure: wherein R' is a Caliphatic group; R in each of the x (RO), y (RO) and z (RO) groups is independently Calkylene; x+y is in a range of 2 to 7; and z is in a range of 1 to 5.

A reaction product, useful as a viscosity index improver in a lubricating oil, reacting: a) an oil soluble ethylene-alpha olefin copolymer comprising from 10 to less than 80 weight % ethylene and greater than 20 up to 90 weight % of at least one Cto Calpha olefin, having a number average molecular weight from 5,000 to 120,000 and grafted with 0.5 to 5 weight % of an ethylenically unsaturated acylating agent, with b) a hydrocarbyl substituted poly(oxyalkylene) monoamine of the formula: R&#x2014;(O&#x2014;CHR&#x2014;CHR)-A wherein: Ris a hydrocarbyl group having from 1 to 35 carbon atoms; Rand Rare each independently hydrogen, methyl, or ethyl and each Rand Rare independently selected in each &#x2014;O&#x2014;CHR&#x2014;CHR&#x2014; unit; A is amino, &#x2014;CHamino or N-alkyl amino having 1 to 10 carbon atoms; and x is an integer from 2 to 45.

Functionalized olefin copolymers with monoamine terminated polyether and lubricating oil compositions

A method for is disclosed for improving diesel engine wear by lubricating the engine with a composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and based upon the total composition of the lubricating oil composition from about 0.1 to about 2.0 weight % actives of a reaction product of an ethylene-alpha olefin copolymer acylated with maleic anhydride having a number average molecular weight from 5,000 to 120,000 and a hydrocarbyl-substituted poly(oxyalkylene) monoamine represented by the formula: R&#x2014;(OCHCH)&#x2014;(OCHCHR)&#x2014;NHRwherein Ra hydrocarbyl group having from about 1 to about 35 carbon atoms; Ris independently hydrogen or methyl for each repeat unit g; Ris hydrogen or alkyl from 1 to 10 carbon atoms; and f and g are integers such that f+g is from 2 to 45 and wherein Ris selected to have a plurality of ethylene oxide in the polyoxyalkylene moiety.

Functionalized olefin copolymers with monoamine terminated polyether lubricating oil compositions

A post-treated polymeric dispersant which comprises reacting (I) a post-treating agent selected from a cyclic carbonate, a linear mono-carbonate, a linear poly-carbonate, an aromatic polycarboxylic acid or an aromatic polycarboxylic anhydride or an aromatic polycarboxylic acid ester and (II) an oil-soluble lubricating oil additive composition prepared by the process which comprises reacting a copolymer, with at least one ether compound and with at least one aliphatic compound capable of reacting with at least one monocarboxylic acid or ester thereof, or dicarboxylic acid, anhydride or ester thereof.
