Embodiments of the present disclosure relate devices, systems, methods, and for displaying information about the direction and magnitude of position, movement, and/or resistive force experienced for an object. The present disclosure also provides a shear display device that can generate skin shear with one or more tactors. The movement of the tactors can represent to a user various information about an object.

Skin stretch feedback devices, systems, and methods

Implementations of the present invention relate to apparatuses, systems, and methods for measuring the grasp state, position, or hand pose of a user's hand relative to a device, which could be used as an input for human-machine input, augmented reality, virtual reality, video games, or tele-manipulation. The device may include a plurality of grasp sensors embedded within the device. A kinematic hand model can be used in combination with grasp sensing data to estimate a user's hand pose.

Embedded grasp sensing devices, systems, and methods

A multidirectional control system with shear feedback, comprising at least one stationary body, a plurality of tactors disposed within the at least one movable body or the at least one stationary body. In some embodiments, a moveable body is included, such that the tactors have at least one degree of freedom of motion with respect to the stationary body or the moveable body within which they are disposed and are operable to engage target areas of a user's skin; and a plurality of actuators capable of moving the tactors.

Multidirectional controller with shear feedback

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate devices, systems, methods, and for displaying information about the direction and magnitude of position, movement, and/or resistive force experienced for an object. The present disclosure also provides a shear display device that can generate skin shear with one or more tactors, each moving in a two- or three-dimensional space. The movement of the tactors can represent to a user various information about an object.

A tactile display comprises a contact pad, operable to engage a target area of a user's skin. A restraining system is operable to restrain a portion of the user's skin distal from the target area of the skin. An actuation system is operably coupled to one of: i) the contact pad and the ii) restraining system. The actuation system is capable of moving the contact pad and the restraining system relative to one another to create a shear force across the target area of the user's skin to thereby provide tactile information to the user.

Shear tactile display system for communicating direction and other tactile cues

A system capable of providing directional cues to a user of the vehicle comprises a vehicle component, configured to be installed within a vehicle that is adapted to be controlled by a user. A tactile display system is operably coupled to the vehicle component. The tactile display system includes: a contact pad, operable to engage a target area of a user's skin; a restraining system, operable to restrain a portion of the user's skin distal from the target area of the skin; and an actuation system, operably coupled to one of: i) the contact pad and the ii) restraining system. The actuation system is capable of moving the contact pad and the restraining system relative to one another to apply a tangential displacement or shear force across the target area of the user's skin to thereby provide tactile information to the user.

Shear tactile display systems for use in vehicular directional applications

A motion translating device for use in tactile feedback system comprises a motion output device, operable to impart motion from the translator to a motion output device. A frame assembly is operable to translate motion from at least one actuator to the motion output device along at least a first axis and a second axis. The frame assembly has associated therewith a motion decoupling apparatus. The motion decoupling apparatus is operable to translate motion between an actuator and the frame assembly along one of the axes while at least partially decoupling motion between an actuator and the frame assembly along an other axis.

Compact shear tactile feedback device and related methods

A tactile contact and impact display system comprises a receiver, operable to receive therein a user's digit while leaving a target area of skin of the user's digit at least partially exposed. A contact pad is operable to engage the target area of the user's skin. An actuation system is actuatably coupled to the contact pad and is operable to move the contact pad relative to the target area of skin. A distance sensor is coupled to the contact pad, the distance sensor being operable to sense a separation distance between the contact pad and the target area of the user's digit. A restraining system is operable to substantially restrain the contact pad from moving in at least one degree of freedom relative to the receiver while allowing the contact pad to move in at least one degree of freedom relative to the receiver.
