An inner housing ( ) is positioned within an outer housing ( ). An gas/liquid mixture is caused to flow along a helical path upwardly through an outer chamber ( ) that is formed by and between sidewalls ( ) of the outer and inner housings ( ). The gas/liquid mixture flows through a passageway ( ) between a top end wall ( ) and an upper end edge ( ), from outer chamber ( ) into an inner chamber ( ). Residual gas is removed from the gas/liquid mixture by a gas-vent device that projects from top end wall ( ) downwardly into the inner chamber ( ). Liquid in the inner chamber ( ) flows downwardly through an outlet opening ( ) into an outlet conduit ( ). The outlet conduit ( ) has an effluent branch that removes liquid from the apparatus. It also includes a second branch conduit that delivers some of the liquid to the inlet of a re-circulating pump ( ). The re-circulating pump ( ) pumps the re-circulated liquid back into the lower end of the outer chamber ( ). New gas and new untreated liquid is added to the re-circulated liquid before it is introduced into chamber ( ). The re-circulated liquid, the new gas and the untreated liquid are admixed into a conduit and are then introduced into the lower end portion of the outer chamber ( ) as an upward swirling helical current.

Treating a liquid with a gas

A gas treatment system for liquids can increase gas exposure and contact time. A liquid stream is directed into a vortex chamber (130). The vortex chamber (130) creates a downward spiral flow of the liquid stream forcing it into an upper end inlet (145) of a contact tank (114) and downward in the contact tank (114). When the liquid stream reaches a lower region (170) of the contact tank (114), a portion is drawn into a draw tube (120) while the other portion is drawn into a re-circulation system (160). In the re-circulation system (160), a gas injector system (166) entrains bubbles of a treatment gas into the liquid stream creating a re-circulated stream that is displaced into an upper region (168) in the contact tank (114). The portion drawn into the draw tube (120) then moves upwardly to a degassing chamber (146) wherein the treatment gas is separated from the liquid and delivered through an outlet (124) for use. Because the entrained bubbles are forced downwardly through the contact tank (114), and a portion of the liquid stream is re-circulated with additional entrained bubbles, the gas bubbles remain quite small and contact time is prolonged. Release of the treatment gas is further facilitated by positioning the degassing chamber (146) at an elevated position which promotes gas bubble expansion, combination and release.

System for re-circulating a gas mixture to treat liquids

A gas treatment system for liquids can increase gas exposure and contact time. A liquid stream into which treatment gas is added is directed into a vortex chamber (130). The vortex chamber (130) creates a downward spiral flow of the liquid stream forcing it into an upper end inlet (145) of a contact tank (114). The liquid stream with entrained gas bubbles is forced to move downwardly through the tank to a lower end outlet (122). The flow then moves upwardly to a degassing chamber (146) wherein the treatment gas is separated from the liquid and delivered through an outlet (124) for use. Because the entrained bubbles are forced downwardly through the contact tank (114), the gas bubbles remain quite small and contact time is prolonged. Release of the treatment gas is further facilitated by positioning the degassing chamber (146) at an elevated position which promotes gas bubble expansion, combination and release.

System for treating liquids with a gas

An electrical power switching device employing a rotary disc driven by an actuation means whose position is selected by a control means where disc contacts engage and disengage stationary contacts where the stationary contacts are deflected away from the disc contacts by separation ramps thereby opening the current path and an arc plate is used on the disc to control arc energy. A pair of interrupter contacts are placed in series with the rotary disc contacts where abnormally high currents cause the interrupter contacts to separate and open the current path where slot motors and/or arc plates are used to dissipate the damaging electrical arcs as the contacts make and break.

An electrical contractor device (80) for controlling the flow of electrical power from a source of electrical power to an electrical device according to a command signal from a controller utilizing a rotary disc assembly (90) rotated by an actuator (169) where the rotary disc assembly (90) is comprised of a rotary disc (100) supporting a disc conductor (102) having a pair of contact pads (106, 108) joined by a pair of conductor legs (109, 113) and a center section (111) where the conductor legs (109, 113) are parallel and offset one from the other straddling an axis of rotation (103) where high flow of electrical current through the disc conductor (102) generates an electro-magnetic torque in the rotary disc assembly (90). The disc contacts (106, 108) make electrical contact with a corresponding number of stationary contacts (110,112) of a 'turn back' design one of which is connected one to a source of electrical power and the second to the device whose operation is to be controlled were as the rotary disc (100) is rotated by the actuator means (169), the disc contacts (106, 108) make electrical connection with the stationary contacts (110, 112) and when the actuator (169) is not energized a return spring (176) causes the rotary disc (100) to rotate in an opposite direction thereby causing the stationary contacts (110, 112) to be forced away from the rotary disc (100) by a separation ramp (140, 142). A disc conductor (102) is formed to induce a rotary torque in the rotary disc (100) when an abnormally high electrical current is conducted thereby breaking the conduction path by rotating the rotary disc (100) in conjunction with the return spring (176) to overcome the spring (180) connecting actuator (169) and open the contactor device (80).

An apparatus for and method of making and delivering slush ice includes providing a main housing (28) having a floor (30) and substantially cylindrical sidewalls (32). The housing (28) includes a water inlet (58) and an ice inlet (26). A pump (34) having a delivery outlet (50) is positioned to have an inlet (44) substantially centered axially within the housing (28) and spaced a predetermined distance from the floor (30). A delivery conduit (52) extends from the delivery outlet (50) of the pump (34) to a second end (72, 88) remote therefrom. A rotating agitator member (54, 54') having an axis of rotation substantially centered co-axially within the housing (28) is positioned such that the agitator (54, 54') swirls ice and water in the housing (28) substantially around the pump inlet (44). The pump (34) draws ice and water through the inlet (44) and delivers a mixture of ice and water in the form of slush ice (16) through the delivery outlet (50). Slush ice produced according to this method and by this apparatus is soft, noncaking, and free of irregular and sharp edges.
