A building management system (BMS) includes building equipment operable to affect a physical state or condition of a building, a gateway device coupled to the building equipment, and a network adapter removably coupled to the gateway device. The network adapter couples the gateway device to a cloud-based platform. The cloud-based platform is configured to receive building data from the gateway device via the network adapter, and includes a hub to receive the building data and a plurality of cloud applications configured to receive the building data from the hub and process the building data to provide a building data output. The cloud-based platform is configured to communicate the building data output to and receive a command based on the building data from at least one of a control application, an analytic application, or a monitoring application. The gateway device is further configured to operate according to the command.

Building management system with exchangeable communication interfaces

A building management system (BMS) includes building equipment operable to affect a physical state or condition of a building coupled to a gateway device configured to communicate building data from the building equipment to a cloud-based platform according to a data control template configured to control a data rate between the gateway device and the cloud-based platform. The cloud-based platform includes a hub to generate a virtual device twin comprising the data control template and configured to receive the building data and represent the gateway device on the cloud-based platform, as well as plurality of cloud applications configured to provide a building data output. A bridge device for a building network includes a radio, a wired communications interface configured to communicate with a first master slave/token passing (MS/TP) network, and a processing circuit configured to wirelessly transmit and receive messages to and from MS/TP devices coupled to the MS/TP network. The processing circuit is configured to transparently communicate the messages such that the MS/TP devices on the first MS/TP network are operationally unaware of a wireless network associated with the bridge device by passing tokens for MS/TP devices outside of the MS/TP network.

A method is disclosed for programming and executing a state machine control program represented as a diagram in an HVAC controller. The diagram is converted to tabular data which is entered into one or more spreadsheet pages. The tabular data includes the defined output states, the defined input states and defined transition states, whereby a given output state and a given set of inputs will cause transition to a next output state. The tabular data is translated, through execution of a routine in a macro-instruction language, into a plurality of data structures for downloading into a finite state machine object data structure in the controller, where it will be acted upon by an object-oriented execution module, referred to as a class execute method, which is also present in the controller.

An actuator is operated to move a mechanical device between two extreme positions of travel. While that motion is occurring, the system quantifies the amount of movement that occurs between those positions. The quantification may involve counting the number of steps of a stepper motor. The number of steps may be used directly as a quantification. Alternatively, the number of steps can be multiplied by the time period of each step to derive the time of the movement between the extreme positions. In addition to being used to setup the actuator upon installation, this automatic ranging method can be performed periodically to compensate for effects of wear on the mechanical device.
