A methods and systems for generating rectified signals are disclosed. For example, a system performing the methods includes a current source rectifier which has a plurality of switches configured to receive an input current from an AC voltage source and to receive a plurality of control signals. The switches are configured to produce a rectified output current based on the input current and the control signals. The system also includes a rectifier controller configured to receive a current sense signal indicative of the rectified output current and to generate the control signals based at least in part on the current sense signal, where the control signals cause the current source rectifier to attenuate at least one of a plurality of harmonic frequencies in the rectified output current.

Harmonic regulator for current source rectification and inversion

A method and apparatus for detection of a failure of a rectifier connected to a passive harmonic filter with a tuned circuit reactor, or of the filter itself, using low cost voltage sensing, modeling of reactor resistance and saturable inductance, and a mathematical integration. The harmonic spectrum of the rectifier current is used to determine an estimate of the rectifier impedance. A template of expected rectifier current is calculated, and compared against a rectifier current calculated on the basis of sensed voltages, to generate a difference signal. The difference signal is compared against a predetermined fault threshold to determine if an error has occurred. The apparatus includes a DSP obtaining the voltages of the source and load, and the tuned circuit reactor voltage, and configured to compare the currents calculated from the actual voltages with the currents in the template, and to thereby determine whether to annunciate a fault.

Passive harmonic filter power quality monitor and communications device

A system includes a current source rectifier which has a plurality of switches configured to receive an input current from an AC voltage source and to receive a plurality of control signals. The switches are configured to produce a rectified output current based on the input current and the control signals. The system also includes a rectifier controller configured to receive a current sense signal indicative of the rectified output current and to generate the control signals based at least in part on the current sense signal, where the control signals cause the current source rectifier to attenuate at least one of a plurality of harmonic frequencies in the rectified output current.

A parallel filter arrangement with at least two filters supplying current in line side sensing configuration and a number of sensors for measuring current. The sensors are used to determine the amount of current being supplied by the filters and the amount of current being supplied by a source. The filters adjust their supplied current in order to reduce or eliminate the amount of reactive or harmonic current being supplied by a source.

Paralleling of active filters with independent controls

A passive filter for connection between an AC source and a load, in either three-phases or in a single-phase arrangement. The filter includes, for each phase, a trap circuit having an inductor in series with a capacitor, the trap circuit having at least two terminals. A line reactor is connected between the AC source and the load, the line reactor having at least an input terminal, an output terminal and a tap terminal. A switch selectively connects at least one of the trap circuit terminals to a selected one of the line reactor terminals. The switch is capable of selecting which of the trap circuit terminals to connect to which of the line reactor terminals on the basis of a level of voltage distortion being experienced by the AC source, or on the basis of a calculated level of background voltage total harmonic distortion.
