Conductive polyphenylene ether-polyamide compositions having excellent ductility are prepared by melt blending polyphenylene ether, an unsaturated impact modifying polymer and a functionalizing compound in an initial step, optionally in combination with a portion of the polyamide, and subsequently melt blending with the remainder of the polyamide and conductive carbon black having a low volatiles content. A mixture of polyamides, illustrated by mixtures of polyamide-6 and polyamide-66, is employed.

Improved thermoplastic compositions based on polyphenylene ether are disclosed. These compositions contain a resinous additive derived from a mixture which comprises aromatic monomers, such as a mixture of styrene and alpha methyl styrene. The compositions are characterized by improved melt flow, along with the substantial maintenance of other important properties, such as impact strength and heat distortion temperature.

Blend compositions comprise a polyphenylene ether resin, a polyetherimide siloxane copolymer and pentaerythritol tetrabenzoate. Novel compositions are provided which comprise a polyphenylene ether, optionally a high impact polystyrene, optionally, an effective amount of an aromatic phosphate flame retardant, and a low molecular weight polymer selected from a polyolefin glycol or a polyamide, said comopsition being free from or excluding a substantial content of polyolefin, such as polyethylene. Such compositions when molded are readily paintable, and exhibit good adhesion between the paint and the molded compositions as distinguished from compositions containing polyolefins, such as polyethylene, which has been found to adversely affect paint adhesion.
