A focusing collimator has a plurality of corrugated strips which are built up in a stack. Within each stacking plane of interest, each strip is shaped in cross-section as a part of a different radial sector of a common predetermined annulus.

Focusing collimator and method for making it

A collimator for an Anger-type scintillation camera is disclosed in which a plurality of spaced pins of radiation transmitting material located within an internal cavity of a collimator housing serve as radiation transmitting channels and mercury filling the spaces between the pins serves as the radiation opaque septa. A channel containing mercury formed between the outermost pins and the side of the cavity serves as a mask to define the field of view of the camera crystal. A thermal expansion recess above the masking channel accommodates volume changes in the mercury due to changes in temperature. A method is disclosed for making the collimator housing out of molded plastic. Pins formed integrally with a base member and pins formed integrally with a cover plate are mated together to give high collimator aperture density. Filling ports are used to introduce mercury at elevated temperature into the closed structure.

Collimator for a radiation detector and method of making same

A test pattern device for testing scintillation cameras has a radiation transparent body member with internal mercury-filled communicating passages that define a calibrated radiation opaque test pattern. A peripheral passage serves as a mask to outline the useful field of view of the camera crystal, and expansion chambers accommodate changes in mercury volume due to temperature. The body member is made by securing a plastic cover plate to a plastic base molded with grooves to form the test pattern passages and filling ports, and then sealing the filling ports after mercury has been added to fill the passages. The invention avoids the tolerance problems associated with the manufacture of conventional lead test pattern devices.
