The present invention describes a bio-based process to produce high quality protein concentrate (HQPC) by converting plant derived celluloses into bioavailable protein via aerobic incubation, including the use of such HQPC so produced as a nutrient, including use as a fish meal replacement in aquaculture diets.

Microbial-based process for high-quality protein concentrate

The disclosed embodiments provide cyanobacteria spp. that have been genetically engineered to have increased production of carbon-based products of interest. These genetically engineered hosts efficiently convert carbon dioxide and light into carbon-based products of interest such as long chained hydrocarbons. Several constructs containing polynucleotides encoding enzymes active in the metabolic pathways of cyanobacteria are disclosed. In many instances, the cyanobacteria strains have been further genetically modified to optimize production of the carbon-based products of interest. The optimization includes both up-regulation and down-regulation of particular genes.

Genetically engineered cyanobacteria

A weed barrier removal assembly facilitates removal of weed barrier material. The assembly includes a mounting plate configured for coupling to a motorized vehicle. First and second arms are coupled to and extend from the mounting plate in spaced relationship to each other. A first coupler is rotatably coupled to the first arm and a second coupler is rotatably coupled to the second arm. The first and second couplers are configured for coupling to an elongated member wherein the elongated member extends between the first and second arms. A motivator is operationally coupled to the first coupler wherein the first coupler is selectively rotated by activating the motivator.

Described are novelstrains that were obtained by UV-C irradiation of wild-typeNRRL Y-7124 cultures, followed by 5-month anaerobic growth on xylose at 28&#xb0; C. The UV-C-mutagenized strains were able to grow anaerobically on xylose or glucose medium with higher ethanol production than ayeast strain under comparable fermentation conditions. The mutagenized strains were identified by DNA fingerprinting to be unique strains closely related to wild-type. These mutagenized strains have potential application in large-scale industrial conversion of lignocellulosic sugars to fuel ethanol.
