An apparatus for deflashing work pieces includes a pivotable treatment chamber, a throwing wheel which propels particulate media to impact work pieces in the treatment chamber, and a cryogen supply introducing a flow of cryogen to embrittle work pieces in the treatment chamber. A recirculation system includes a separator in communication with the treatment chamber through a plenum chamber, a media hopper in communication with the separator, first and second withdrawal conduits, a supply conduit connecting the withdrawal conduits to the throwing wheel, and a blower connected to the withdrawal and supply conduits for moving gas therein. The first withdrawal conduit is connected to withdraw cryogen gas from the treatment chamber through the separator and the media hopper and pull media from the separator to the media hopper. The second withdrawal conduit is directly connected to the plenum chamber to withdraw gas therefrom.

Cryogen shot blast deflashing system

A cryogen deflashing apparatus for removing residual flash from molded articles includes a receptacle assembly forming a sealed treatment chamber for the molded articles and a throwing wheel assembly for propelling particulate media against the molded articles. The throwing wheel assembly including a vaned impeller, an adjustable scroll housing, and an adjustable directional foil housing. The scroll housing partially encircles the impeller and has a surface shaped in the form of a volute. The impeller cooperates with the scroll housing to operate as a suction blower for evacuating cryogen gas and particulate media from a supply conduit. The directional foil housing forms an outlet of the throwing wheel assembly and directs cryogen gas and particulate media, accelerated by the impeller, directly toward the molded articles. The directional foil housing is angularly adjustable to longitudinally adjust impact of the particulate matter and includes vanes which laterally direct split streams of particulate matter to different locations within the receptacle assembly. The scroll and directional foil housings are particularly well suited for retrofitting existing cryogen deflashing machines.

Shot blaster with impeller/blower

A cryogen shot blast system is provided which includes a sealed cryogenic chamber and a barrel which is supported within the cryogenic chamber and is rotatable about a longitudinal axis. The barrel is pivotally mounted so that the longitudinal axis of the barrel has a variable angle of inclination. The cryogenic chamber includes a drum portion and a generally hemispherically-shaped dome portion which seals an open end of the drum portion. The cryogenic chamber is jointed such that the barrel and a portion of the cryogenic chamber can rotate between a loading position wherein work pieces can be loaded into the barrel and an operating position wherein the barrel is sealed within the cryogenic chamber. A throwing wheel propels particulate media into the barrel to impact work pieces. A nozzle injects the particulate media at different orientations within the throwing wheel to vary the direction of flow of particulate media from the throwing wheel.

Rotating drum cryogen shot blast deflashing system

A method and apparatus are provided for reacting waste matter in a flame using fuel such as a flammable gas and oxygen. The apparatus includes a substantially cylindrical burner comprising a burner base and a removably attachable base extension having a diameter greater than that of the base. The base and the base extension each have aligned central nozzles extending their entire lengths for ejecting waste matter to be reacted, and aligned fuel nozzles radially spaced from each of the central nozzles for ejecting fuel to be ignited. The perimeter of the burner base extension is notched to provide channel-shaped peripheral oxygen nozzles. A substantially cylindrical cooling jacket surrounding the burner is adapted to receive oxygen which passes through the space defined by the outer surface of the burner base and the inner surface of the cooling jacket, then through the peripheral oxygen nozzles of the base extension. Other base extensions, having various peripheral nozzle shapes and central nozzle configurations, can be interchangeably attached to the burner base to create desired flow patterns of waste matter and oxygen through the central nozle and peripheral nozzles, respectively.
