Diblock (B-A) and triblock (B-A-B) polydiorganosiloxane-polyurea block copolymers comprise non-functional polydiorganosiloxane endblock B and polyurea block A. When used to provide release coatings, the block copolymers allow for easier release compared to traditional block copolymers of the (AB).sub.n type having comparable amounts of polydiorganosiloxane. Articles incorporating the copolymers as a release material are also disclosed.

The invention provides a radiation curable release coating composition comprising: (a) about 1 to about 50 percent by weight of a cationically reactive polydiorganosiloxane liquid rubber having the following formula: ##STR1## wherein R are monovalent moieties which can be the same or different selected from the group consisting of alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl, and substituted aryl wherein at least about 50% of the total number of silicon atoms have two methyl groups bonded thereto; E is an organic monovalent functional group comprising from about 1 to about 20 carbon atoms having at least one cationically co-reactive functional group; a and b both represent integers, wherein the sum of a plus b is an integer of about 10 to about 1200; b has a value ranging from about 0 to about 0.2 a; a is an integer of about 10 to about 1000; and M is a silyl group which must contain at least one cationically co-reactive functional group when b=0 and may contain at least one cationically co-reactive group when b is greater than 0; (b) about 50 to about 99 percent by weight of at least one cationically co-reactive monomer copolymerizable with said cationically co-reactive functional group of said polydiorganosiloxane liquid rubber; wherein the percentages of (a) and (b) are based on the total weight of (a) plus (b); and (c) about 0.5 to about 4 parts by weight of a photoactive radiation activatable cationically reactive catalyst based on the weight of (a) plus (b). The present invention relates to elastomeric copolymers and block copolymers, e.g., based upon styrene/isoprene, having a novel condensed phase structure wherein polymer branches occur along the polymer backbone, either at a predetermined location or at random locations. The polymers are made by a method which comprises the step of reacting, under polymerization conditions, hydrocarbyl lithium initiator, at least one anionically polymerizable compound, and an organometallic- substituted styrene condensing agent. The reactants may be added simultaneously to produce a copolymer with polymer branch segments randomly located along the polymer backbone or sequentially to produce a copolymer with branches located at the same predetermined location along the polymer backbone. The resultant polymers may be further reacted with a linking agent to form multi-arm copolymers.
