There is provided an autoloader apparatus and skin testing system for rapidly loading a multi-headed applicator used for epicutaneous application of biological testing agents, while at the same time, effectively inhibiting cross contamination of testing agents during loading and removal of the applicator. The autoloader apparatus includes a plurality of reservoirs for storing testing agents therein. Each reservoir includes a collar defining an open top. The autoloader apparatus further includes a receptacle having first and second surfaces defining a plurality of apertures therethrough for at least partially receiving the collars of the reservoirs. The skin testing system includes an applicator and an autoloader. The applicator has a plurality of picks for sealably engaging the open tops of the reservoirs of the autoloader to enable each pick to be loaded with an effective amount of testing agent. The testing agents are epicutaneously deposited by piercing the patient's skin with each pick to a predetermined depth and observing the pierced skin for response to the testing agent.

A skin test applicator has a applicator handle (21) and separately storable test elements (13). A complimentary snap-fit attachment structure (33, 43) is provided on the applicator handle and test elements to permit the applicator handle to operatively pick up and hold one or more test elements from a suitable sterile storage tray. The skin test applicator reduces storage requirements and the amount of refuse that must be discarded immediately following the administration of a skin test for the diagnosis of an allergic response or other diagnostic test.

There is provided a method for performing skin tests for biologic response which includes providing an applicator having at least one pick having at least one skin piercing epidermal point and being capable of carrying a load of testing substance such as biologic substances, such as an antigen, for skin testing for each pick, each of said sources being carried in a container having an opening. The applicator is placed in sealing relationship over each of the openings in the container to form a single unit of the combined applicator and source. The unit is then inverted so as to load each pick with an effective amount of substance to perform a skin test, reverting said unit, and the applicator is removed in loaded condition ready for use. The testing substances are epicutaneously deposited by piercing the patient's skin with each pick to a predetermined depth and observing the pierced skin for response to the testing substance.

Skin testing device loading method

A safety device for use with machines in which the operator must use his hand or hands to position a work piece in the vicinity of a subsequently descending potentially dangerous element. The mechanism includes a downwardly movable probe which if intercepted by the operator's hand will prevent the machine element from operating. Removal of the hand to a safe position enables the probe to fall and the machine operation to proceed. The mechanisms are controlled by air actuated valves which automatically direct compressed air sequentially to the operative elements.

A machine for driving a pin into a hole in a work piece. The pins are fed by gravity in a continuous succession from a pin supply to a passage extending through a pin receiving rotor. With a pin in the rotor, the rotor is turned through a selected angle to bring the pin and the passage through the rotor into alignment with a pin driving punch. Upon actuation of the punch, the pin is driven from the rotor into a passage in an adjacent aligned sliding pin guide. Movement of the pin through the pin guide temporarily ceases when the pin encounters a resilient stop. Continued movement of the punch then moves the pin guide and the pin therein until the nose of the pin guide engages the work piece. The punch, continuing to move through the passage in the now stationary pin guide, drives the pin past the resilient stop and into the aligned hole in the work piece. Upon withdrawal of the punch, the pin guide aided by a spring returns to it original position adjacent the rotor. When the punch has cleared the rotor, the rotor is then rotated back to its original position ready to receive the next pin. The operation is then repeated to drive the next pin into another hole in the work piece which has been positioned to be aligned with the punch and the passage through the pin guide.

A pin chuck press having means for adjusting the rest position of the pin inserting means up or down with respect to a work piece supporting base so that the inserting means will be able to place pins in the cooperating holes in work pieces of different vertical dimensions.

A lever type door handle assembly adapted to be mounted on a conventional lock spindle which may or may not include a lock tumbler cylinder. The assembly comprises a handle and three inexpensively made parts which may be assembled on a lock spindle to form a rigid unit without the use of pins or screws.

A machine for driving a spring pin into a work piece. The pins are automatically fed from a supply to the pin driving means. Pins of varying lengths and diameters can be accommodated by changing a few parts. The work piece to receive the pin is placed at a correct location below the driving means. The machine, when actuated, goes through one complete cycle of driving a pin into the work piece and reloading itself for the next cycle.
