Stanchion and clamp assemblies which are moveable along a track system in a cargo storage area and which are pivotally and/or extendably adjustable relative to cargo or dunnage after being initially secured to the track system to thereby permit positive engagement of the stanchion and clamp assemblies with the cargo or dunnage and thus prohibit cargo or dunnage shifting.

Housing for article support racks

Extendable trays for use in conventional rural route mailboxes for facilitating the placement and removal of mail with respect thereto wherein the trays are constructed utilizing scored or integrally hinged sheet material which is selectively folded into a generally flat or planar configuration or package for shipping or distribution and which is assembled by a postal customer so as to be of a size and configuration to be cooperatively and slidingly received within a particular mailbox. In one form of the invention, the sheet material may be selectively folded into a number of sizes so that trays of varying dimensions may be formed from the same sheet of material.

Extendable mailbox trays

A closet organizer for supporting a plurality of articles of clothing such as pants and skirts from a clothes rod in a closet wherein the organizer includes a housing which is selectively suspended from the clothes rod and is stabilized with respect thereto and from which a telescoping clothing rack assembly is slideably carried. The clothing rack assembly includes at least one telescoping slide member which is received within the housing and from which a plurality of vertically spaced pairs of horizontally swingable clothing support arms are suspended. The clothing support arms may be selectively moved forwardly of the clothes rod and thereafter adjustably pivoted outwardly relative to one another so as to facilitate placement and retrieval of articles of clothing with respect thereto.

Telescoping closet garment organizer

In this system an inertial reel is mounted beneath a platform, which is carried by a pair of trucks that roll along an overhead rail which is fastened to the ceiling of a hospital corridor or the like. Two, adjustable, rigid handles project downwardly from the platform to be gripped by a patient, who in turn is adapted to be connected by a harness to a retractable tether or cord, which extends downwardly from the inertial reel behind the patient. While gripping the handles the patient may walk beneath the overhead rail, thereby causing the trucks to roll on the rail and to maintain the platform above the patient. If the patient should suddenly stumble or fall, an hydraulic mechanism in the reel automatically brakes the trucks against movement on the rail and resists withdrawal of the cord from the reel, so that the patient is slowly lowered to the floor. The platform is rotatable by the patient 180.degree. relative to the overhead trucks so as to enable the patient to reverse his or her direction of movement. Also the hydraulic mechanism includes a frustum-shaped reel which causes the resistance to the withdrawal of the cord to be decreased slightly as the knees and/or hands of a falling patient reach the floor.

Safety restraint system and inertial reel therefor

An inertial lock for a safety belt includes a frame supporting a fixed locking jaw and a movable locking jaw. The belt passes between the jaws. A spring yieldably urges the movable jaw into gripping orientation with respect to the fixed jaw to prevent movement of the belt between the jaws. The belt is trained about a wheel supported in the frame such that movement of the belt rotates the wheel. A shaft extends radially outwardly from the axis of the wheel, and a weight is reciprocably disposed on the shaft. A spring biases the weight away from the distal end of the shaft toward the rotational axis of the wheel. Centrifugal force on the weight caused by rotation of the wheel urges the weight against the spring. Wheel rotation rates in excess of a predetermined rate displace the weight radially outwardly along the shaft. The weight includes a mechanism for triggering the movable jaw to move in response to its spring into gripping orientation with the fixed jaw. In the illustrated embodiments, the apparatus further includes a self-winding spool for storing the belt. The spool includes a clock-spring. Removal of the belt from the spool winds the clock-spring so that tension is always maintained on the belt when it is off the spool.

Lock for a flexible element

A supportive body harness, having a plurality of straps or strips, with load-sharing and thus high comfort effect by a means which co-ordinate the different support particulars, achieving full and comfortable body-support without any straps passing between the wearer's legs. Particularly useful in conjunction with semi-invalid safety-walker installations which provide for a person's walking support from a supportive trackway mounted on the ceiling.

Supportive body harness

This restraint mechanism utilizes a flexible tether or cord, which is attachable at one end to a harness or garment worn by a patient, or the like, and which is attached at its opposite end to an inertial reel. The reel may be mounted for travel in a track or groove formed in a ceiling of a room or the like, or it may be fixed to the ceiling, or even to an overhead frame on a walker. A spring in the reel normally tends to retract the tether to maintain slight tension therein when it is attached to the patient's harness. If the patient should suddenly fall, a centrifugally or hydraulically operated safety mechanism in the reel immediately resists rotation of the reel in an unwinding direction, thereby causing the patient to be lowered gently to the floor. Also, should the tether suddenly be released from the patient's harness, the reel includes a centrifugally or hydraulically operated mechanism for preventing sudden retraction of the tether into the reel. The harness itself may be a garment worn by the patient, or may comprise a plurality of straps wrapped around the patient, and attached by releasable clamps to the lower end of the tether, or to a yoke member attached to the lower end of the tether. The garment or straps may have 'Velcro' type closures for releasably securing surfaces thereof together.
