A holder block assembly for a drum-type cutting tool has a holder block and a sleeve that is removably held in the holder block to carry a cutter bit. The sleeve includes a shank received in a hole in a cutter block and a nut threaded on the shank. The nut is turned by a hand tool to extract the sleeve from the holder block.

A holder block assembly for a drum-type cutting tool has a holder block, a sleeve, and a piston carried in a piston channel formed in the holder block. The sleeve includes a shank and an enlarged flange at an end of the shank. The sleeve shank is received in a hole in the holder block, with the shank and hole wall forming a number of axially spaced interference fits. A source of pressurized fluid applied to the holder block forces the piston against the sleeve to extract the sleeve from the holder block. Sealing structure between the piston and the holder block prevents the release of hydraulic fluid when the sleeve is released.

A cutting tool has a holder block and a sleeve. The sleeve includes a shank and an enlarged flange at an end of the shank. The sleeve shank is received in a hole in the holder block, with the flange against a surface of the holder block and the sleeve shank facing the holder hole wall. A first fillet extending between the holder bore wall and a second fillet extending between the sleeve shank and sleeve flange cooperatively form an annular flow passage for flow of water from the holder into the sleeve.

Devices for holding mining and road maintenance cutter bits, wherein said devices for holding comprise a cutter bit support block, a clevis and a support block locking mechanism whose geometries have been adapted such that the cutter bit support block can be fixedly and rigidly held in a channel in the clevis by the support block locking mechanism, which has a locking bolt. The support block locking mechanism and the clevis have means for interacting and cooperating such that each abuts with, and applies a downward pressure to, a lower body portion of the support block and thereby drives downward facing longitudinal shoulders on the support block into abutment under pressure with upward facing abutment shoulders of two longitudinal walls forming the channel in the clevis.
