An improved post-collation duplex to duplex copying system, for a duplexing copier with a duplex buffer tray, and connected sorter bins, utilizing a recirculating duplex document handler (RDH) in which a set of duplex (two sided) original document sheets may be loaded, recirculated, copied, and inverted during circulations, for making plural duplex (two sided) copy sheets, by temporarily storing a calculated variable plural number of identical consecutive first side copies of each document in the duplex tray and feeding these copy sheets out from the duplex tray for copying their second sides in a subsequent document circulation, and outputting them to selected sorter bins, in which the plural identical copies are collated in a calculated variable number of sorter bins normally substantially less than the total number of bins. This variable number of identical copies made per document in a circulation and bins utilized per circulation is preferably a repeatedly recalculated function of the smallest of: (1) the duplex tray capacity.div.number of originals being copied, or (2) the quantity of copy sets selected, or (3) the number of available sorter bins, or (4) the remaining quantity of copy sets to be made.

Post-collation duplex copying system

A reproduction or printing machine including a finisher having a stack mode, a staple set mode, and a bound set mode and a tray for receiving copy sheets delivered to the finisher to be operated in any of these modes. The reproduction machine includes a controller for instructing the finisher to change from a first mode to a second mode and an operating panel having a switch to initiate the change. After initiation of the mode change at the operator panel, the controller delays by a first time period the instruction to the finisher to change the mode of operation and, also, delays by a second time period the transfer of the copy sheets to the tray in the finisher. The second time period delay depends upon the finishing mode the machine is running in and the requested new finishing mode.

Finisher mode switching

A copy set collecting and storage arrangement is disclosed for a high speed copy reproduction system or duplicator machine having a finishing station. The arrangement includes an elevator for collecting finished copy sets in a stack and a conveyor for receiving one or more stacks from the elevator. Controls are devised for 'limitless' finishing wherein the duplicator is placed in Standby, count holding condition when the full storage capacity has been reached and the programmed reproduction run has not been achieved. The controls will effect automatic start-up again when one or more of the stacks have been removed until once again the capacity has been reached and the reproduction run has not been completed.

Very high speed duplicator with limitless finishing function

A reproduction machine having a recirculating document handler, a display, and the means to enter a diagnostic mode for immediate access of time periods between sensors detecting document travel in the document handler. Upon entering the diagnostic mode, the first requested event of six events or time periods is displayed, the display providing the number of the event and the time period in milliseconds. To successively display the remaining events or time periods between different sets of sensors, it is only necessary to activate a suitable push button on the operator console to display the remaining events in succession.

Reproduction machine with recirculating document handler diagnostics

A non-volatile storage module as utilized in a controller for directing a plurality of control registers of a host machine. The controller includes a central processor that is communicatively coupled through a system bus having control data, and address lines to the module and host machine. The non-volatile storage module includes a data memory operative to interface with the system bus for storing data, and for input-output of the data therefrom through the system bus upon command of the central processor. In addition, the module further includes a power storage unit coupled to the data memory for distributing a plurality of power signals from the host machine through a plurality of critical and non-critical power lines to the data memory for providing a power source that may be utilized therein for a power down condition and for sensing a power down condition on the critical power line from the power storage unit for the switching thereof to the data memory. The module also includes an apparatus that is operative upon indication of a power down condition from the host machine for generating an enabling signal to the data memory while a current address signal on the system bus is being received by the data memory.
